Pull up a couch. It's cool in the Lounge. Just remember to be a good neighbor.

wonderful trip

Post by david h »

I spent about 30 minutes writing a trip report about a ride I did and just when I finished the darn computer lost it for me (actually operator error). I was pissed. So here is my abbreviated version.

1. north half of the infamous Divide ride. Did the south half last year.
2. 2 riders, my brother Richard on a KLR650 and Me on my DR650 .
3. 4600 miles in 13 days.
4. 6 states with about 60 percent being blue highways and the rest was dirt, gravel and forest trails/roads.
5. Due to weather we missed about 150 miles of the trail up by Lava Mountain which is about 25 miles east of Yellowstone. we were at about 6000 feet for night and woke up to snow. Since we needed to go up to about 9 or 10 thousand feet, we hit the highway for a detour.
6. The detour took us to Moab which was a very fun place. Out of Moab we took Onion creek to Gateway Colorado ,then to Naturita, Gunnison , Buena Vista and Home here in Lawrence.
7. 2 flats both mine
3 tip overs, 1 was mine. It was funny cause I had parked my bike on a firm gravel road to help my brother up from his spill. About 2 minutes later I look over and in what seemed like slow motion I saw my bike start to fall over. I made a quick attempt to stop it from falling, but it was past 45 degrees and I failed
8. Great trip- want to do it again- So many wonderful roads and trails we passed because of time limits.
9. here are a few of the pics we took. http://picasaweb.google.com/dhemphilld/DivideRide#

Thats some awesome pics. Half of them look like postcards. Sounds like a fun trip, to bad we got the short version.
Anything with wheels is inherently dangerous. If you are concerned about your safety & well-being, I suggest walking, as a safe alternative
