Sat. Sept. 17 Ride Anderson Co. .....POSTPONED.. WEATHER

Post by bird man »

A few days ago I was out riding having "to much fun" when I realized , if you are going to get a ride together you better start planning. Planning ahead may not be my strong point.
I have put together a new route for this year and I like it better than last years.
This weekend is open for me so I would like to share with whoever can make it a route I have really been enjoying. If you can't make it this saturday I plan to do another ride later or just contact me and we can arrange a time to go riding.
Lets start at the Garnett Ks. airport at 9:00 AM. Sat. Sept 17. The route consist of 2 loups 1 east of Garnett and 1 west of Garnett. The east one just crosses over into Linn county and is mostly south of Greeley. The west route crosses a few miles into coffey county and back. The sum of the 2 loops is approx. 120 miles.
There are lots of (dry) creek crossing, senic vistas and (dry this year) dirt roads. There is a little chance of rain by saturday but it will have to rain a lot to spoil the roads. Some rain will settle the dust but if not most all the roads are east west so with a north or south breeze the dust will not be an issue.
The plan is to ride one loop in the morning returning to Garnett for lunch and gas if needed then riding the other loop in the afternoon.
There is plenty of parking space at the airport if you want to haul your bike.
Please contact me if you can make it so I will have and idea what to expect for proper lunch arrangements and etc. The local Simple Simons makes a really good calizone.

Doh! I won't be able to make it this Sat, but thanks for putting a ride together, Larry! Riders, you have options this weekend and the weather is great. Seriously, don't worry about the rain--just be glad it's not 100 degrees.

Regarding heat, cold, rain, etc--I've ridden in it all and I can honestly say I've never regretted a ride because of the weather. Bring along some cheapo Walmart rain gear and enjoy the ride!

Larry, I'll have to catch you on the replay of this ride later. 8)

Due to the less than favorable weather and forcast I think it would be best if we postpone tomorrows ride ,Sept. 17, and wait for a nicer day. It is more fun and safer to ride on a dry sunny day than in the rain. I am hoping somtime in october to reschedule.
Thanks Larry

Be careful with that "CrazyEXC525" guy, I saw him doing wheelies and burnin' dirt at Oakland last Sunday, all with street tires on it and the back one was smooth in the center!, (yeah, I was the guy on the '07 450). Bo, you should share your story about the miles on your bike and how they got there. There's some guys here that would enjoy it. I'll post up and sometime we'll blast up to Lawrence on the river road. Maybe we;ll hit the horse trails in Osage county in memory of Jim Doyle......
Take care, and get a new rear tire on that bike!

Yeah i have tires sitting in the garage waiting to go on. I get every mile i can with the price of tires and how frequently i have to replace them. I havent been down to the trails in a quite a while. To busy with work. I had alot of fun and got me wanting to do some good adventure riding. The ride spoke of on this thread sounds like alot of fun. I like the sound of the creek crossings. The miles on my bike. Well the first owner put 6,000 on it and then 2nd owner put 4,000 some miles on it in 11 days. He and his father who rode a 450 exc rode from lee summit to colorado into the mountains then from there they went north up into canada not sure how far in but canada none the less!! I bought the bike from him with 10,200 miles on it. It now has 15,300 on it. I have put over 5,000 on it since i bought it in january this year. I love it!! I ride back and forth to work almost everyday. I want to do some more serious trail/adventure riding. The tires i have to go on are dot knobbies so i will be ready soon.
