Wabaunsee county ride Friday Nov. 11th

Post by MacWildcat »

A couple of us are planning to ride Wabaunsee county on Veterans Day. We will be starting from Alma at the gas station at the south end of town at 10:30. I have a western loop and a eastern loop. We plan to ride the western route, loop back into Alma, and then ride the eastern route. Each loop is about 50 miles.

I will be concentrating on low/no maintenance roads. The western route has one possible messy section, the eastern route has more difficult sections. This probably not a good ride for the big adventure bikes, with the road conditions and recent rain it could be pretty rough. The two of us going will be on smaller lightweight DS bikes.

PM me if you plan to join us...

Yes, what a great day to ride.... more wildlife encounters than I'm used to. First a really healthy coyote right beside me in a ditch, then a raccoon in the middle of the road, then the poor greyhound I actually hit! Felt sorry for him, he was reacting to a smaller dog chasing us and came out on the road at full greyhound speed. I hit him in the hindquarters pretty hard. We stuck around to make sure he was ok. Hopefully it was just a lesson learned and no injuries.

Great riding temps, very little dust, and fun riding buddy.

Here's a little help on the second image. Looking down from the top of Box Turtle.

After I split off to go home I added to the wildlife encounters. A group of wild turkeys were completely across the road with more yet to cross. I rode straight at them and they flushed like a covey of quail! It was pretty cool to see that many Big birds all in the air at the same time as I rode under them. :D
