Hey guys,
So I was wondering if anyone knows of a MC, or group, that meets monthly or so that caters to "our kind"(dual sport riders) specifically? I really want to meet more riders but I am always a bit nervous to just go join on a ride where I have never met any of the guys. I have had a few times where that ends in me chasing a small group of guys, trying to keep up, at high speeds (triple digits) though KC. I am a bit older and, I like to think despite my wife's claims, a bit wiser. So I am looking for a group that is out for fun and that wants to make sure everyone makes it home in one piece, without having to post bail first .
My brother and I had even had the brief thought to go ahead and start a Leavenworth MC since we couldn't find one. I don't feel that I possess the necessary level of charisma and magnetic personality to really get one going though. So, thoughts or ideas anyone?
Nick

There are groups that get together semi-regularly for social time outside of riding, but I'm not directly involved in any....barely get the time to ride let alone leave my wife and kid to go have BBQ with a bunch of moto dudes in the evening!
I would not be afraid to just show up for a ride, shake some hands, and ride. Ride your own pace, and if it doesn't work out, politely excuse yourself.
Check out some of these leads:
I'm not yet a member, but the KC BMW club is active and includes adventure riding guys. You don't have to own a BMW as I understand.

There used to be activity in the "kcdualsport" Yahoo group, but I think it's been dead for a long time. It was created by Rusty of Motorcycle Closeouts. We used to get together for a dinner once a month and even ride sometimes!

These guys do some relatively local riding, but mostly while I'm at work.

Re: Motorcycle Club or group for dual sport riders?
Thanks Troy, that seems like some good advice. I saw that the kcbmwmc monthly meeting was yesterday but I couldn't make it out to Westport to attend. I am just getting a bit tired of exploring the area on my own and none of my friends that ride have dual sports. If you lay it down in the middle of nowhere (or out at Perry with no one there ), it sucks to pick up a klr more than one time.

Nick,
I'm a member of the KCBMWMC and most likely the only serious dual sport rider.
I agree with Troy, join a ride, you will be welcomed.
You might also consider watching the KC BBQ thread on ADV. http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=253092
Good Luck,
Eddie
