Over the Hill Racing - Troy Kansas

Post by MacWildcat »

I have read a few forum threads about the Over the Hill Hill climb event at Troy Kansas. I found the web site with the event schedule, but haven't found directions to the actual race site. Would anyone be able to give me directions?

Next event is scheduled for next Saturday 7/17.

Be a definite spectator event for me..... knee surgery went fine yesterday. Meniscus repair and a partially torn ACL repaired. Doc said he would help me with insurance claim to get knee braces. Doc was skeptical at first about putting much into repairing my knees. He considered me "over the hill" at 48 years old for such things as motorcycles. Convinced him that the motorcycles keep me feeling young (at least mentally, body is another story!). Modern medicine is great, was home by 4 pm yesterday, and not needing crutches at all today.
My advise to anyone hesitant about knee repair... procedures are incredible in comparison to my first surgery in 1980. I had a meniscus repair back then that involved the full 6 " incision and 4 days in the hospital. This time, I was home 2 hours after I was wheeled into surgery.

Congrats on the knee surgery, someday me too most likely. Troy and I checked the hillclimb out one time on the way back from Troy's ride to Troy which actually went to White Cloud also. I guess it's the same place, on the south side of 36 between Troy and Wathena.

"At the gas stop in Wathena (trip mile 92), Wojtek Dolski departed for the Kansas City area. Joe Hackney sparked the group’s imagination, with his suggestion of a five-minute detour via US 36 West, to see a new 250-foot dirt hillclimb area promoted by a local landowner. This was rewarded when the group approached the base of this hill tentatively. Then, seemingly out of nowhere, first-time BT Kansas rider Jeff Riggs charged the hill on his KLR 250! He warmed up by getting halfway up the hill, and some in the crowd doubted"

"its 3 miles from try ks headn east and 6 miles west of wathena ks."

That mileage doesn't add up in mapsource, but around here I think.

I enjoyed reading that old backroadstouring.org ride report from 2003. Proof that my friend Sean used to ride a KLR, and on KS gravel roads. :)

Dean, that was enjoyable ride we had up to White Cloud. It started as me just wanting to go see Troy, KS since my name is Troy. The whole town acted like they didn't even know who I was! I remember we found some ditch weed way up there near the KS border. We go SO BAKED! (not) Those country roads up there are really different than anything else in KS (that I've seen).

Dean and I did stop in at that Hill Climb area--there was nobody there, we just wanted to see the hill. I'm sad to say I did not charge the hill like that guy did on his KLR 250. (impressive!) Back then I was riding a 99 Suzuki DR350. Today, on my KTM or Husky, the story might be different. 8)

I think I'd like to come see the hill climb competition this coming Sat evening. I'd really like to ride up to it, but I'm not a big fan of riding my motorcycle after dark (bugs, deer, crap in the road, etc.). So maybe I'll drive up. Anyone from the KC metro interested in car-pooling? :?:

OR....do we do a ride and make a longer afternoon/evening out of it? Ride somewhere interesting for dinner and then head over to the hill climb? :?:
