So I found a 200 for sale here in ICT. Im trying to talk him out of it as he posted it for sale and is now having 2nd thoughts. Took it for a test ride on Tue and he said I just rode it more than he has and hes owned the bike for a year. Details on the bike
2005
Suspention set up for a 200ish rider with subtanks. Emig Racing Triples
New plastic, chain, Tires, sprockets, Piston, rings, with about 40 hrs total on bike.
Stock plastic comes with bike.
Aftermarket pegs
This is my first 2 stroke so anything I need to look for? It seems to be in nice shape and doest even have boot marks on the side cases. Stock plastic look to be in good shape also so it is consistent with low hrs I would say.
Other stuff I would like to know is what oil you use for mix and in the case. Joe...wasnt that Klotz that you were using? The good smelling stuff. I have heard that Klotz seems to gum up the PV more than others. I know Sean was using nothing special on mix. Stu how about you?
I like the 200 as I rode Seans down in AR here a while back and I like the PV adjustment and the light feel. After sitting on Joes 300, I think I would just hurt myself on that thing.
Anyone else have anything to add, more than welcome to.
I have been reading as much as I can on 2 stroke stuff off the KTM site. Mostly 300 stuff though it seems.

Re: Stu, Joe, Sean, 2 stroke info needed
The 200 KTM is an offshoot of their 125 MX bike which makes them very snappy from a power delivery standpoint. A friend of mine had a 200MXC a couple years ago, (last year he went to a 250 as he's a bigger guy), I spent about an hour riding it at Oakland. It was a point and shoot weapon. In order to go fast on the bike I had to be very focused and stay sharp as the bike was somewhat unforgiving. The close ratio MXC trans was really nice in the woods. The 200 at that time, (2003) had a smaller frame than my 300 which I liked as it felt like a bicycle under me. I'd have to tame the thing down with a FWW, maybe a pipe, and run the green/yellow spring if I was to own one. Some guys run a throttle cam on them. If I remember correct the EXC's were 6 spds as well which made them very versatile. Depending on your riding style, a properly set up 200 may be the ultimate single track woods bike. I'm sure Bumper can fill you in as he owns one. Go to KTM talk and you can read forever about them, they have a "cult" following like the 300's. Good luck.

Hayden,
BUY IT!! After talking to Bumper. He should be able to fill you in on its care and feeding prior to its ending up with its current owner.
I had '03 & '04 200 EXCs. Both were excellent but the '04 I probably should never have sold. Just fabulous everywhere. I did not find it overly powerful and sold it for my '05 250 which was so satisfying in all respects that I kept it until I got my '09 300 XC-W from Leigh after he raced it. (That motor is to die for. Built right, smooth, powerful and not overwhelming.)
Were I to choose the the most fun bike to ride it would be the 200 EXC. You will too and I doubt you will be dissuaded by comments about its wild power.
The ONLY downside to the 200 was my tendency to hit my instep on my boot on the foot peg when kickstarting it. That finally tore a hole in my boot, after 2 years.
I now use Motul ester based tranny oil, a synthetic 10W-40, which works in all temps. I have successfully used other tranny oils but all were synthetics. I use Maxima 2 stroke racing oil for premix. The oil does not cake on the PV. Again, any good racing oil will work. I mixed at 40:1 on my 200.

I ran Klotz R 50 and it works great. Now that I've sworn off 2 stroke bikes for the rest of my life I use it in my chainsaw and weedwacker.
Ahhh, pre-mix!!
Re: Stu, Joe, Sean, 2 stroke info needed
Why did you "swear off"? Like whiskey? Something thrilling that was too much for you? Why not swear off 2-stroke week whackers and chain saws as well?

so hayden did you get it bought???? you gonna be mixin' next spring in ark with us????
i would burn whatever premix you want. all the talk on the web about this oil or that gumming up this and that has to be taken with a grain of salt. first, you and i are gonna maintain our bikes before they get all gummed up(if they even would) and all that talk is about the same as which engine oil is best to use. its all crap. use what makes you happy. ride it like you stole it. sell it on the web to some unsuspecting dope in a year or two. (ok, just kidding on the last part!)

I'm certain XR would let you borrow his bike and ride it like you stole it. Why buy one if you can use his? His stable needs hard use since he has so little time for it.

Joe.
No not mixn yet. He wouldnt come down on his price any and I knew how much he had bought it for. He didnt ride it and his sale price is too much over his purchase price for me. Not his bad......hes tryn to make money like the rest of us. Ive moved on and now looking at trucks again. Still wouldnt mind having it though and he said he would call me back if anyone came to look at it, just to see if I had changed my mind since I was the first to look at it.
Thanks for all the info guys. Ill keep my eyes open maybe something else will pop up. Or maybe the 450 will be fine for now.
