This is really last minute but I think I'll take a spin in Wabaunsee county tomorrow. I'm open to what ever time would work for anyone wanting to go along.
Send me a PM or call my cell if you are interested. Forecast is 50 degree and breezy....think I'll stay out of the water this time. (785)313-3127

Re: Wabaunsee County 12/08
I worked up a quick route, a little over 100 miles to and from Manhattan. If someone wanted to meet up in Alma, the route would be approx. 50 miles. Concentrating the ride on the "good stuff" in eastern Wabaunsee County, including Box Turtle road.

I was thinking today (Sunday). I'm waiting to see if/when the temp reaches 40 degrees. With the wind starting to blow it might be a wash for today. Anything later than 1 pm risks a ride home at dusk or worse a breakdown in the dark.

I'll be at the intersection of Hwy 177 and Deep Creek rd. at 12:30. Give me a call if you plan to come along. A good pace should take 3 - 3 1/2 hrs.

Re: Wabaunsee County 12/08
It sounded like you weren't going and then I didn't check the site until after lunch so it was too late. I did manage to get in 35 miles around here though and then cleaned the bikes up and lubed the chains. Turned out to be a fair day!
How'd your ride go?

Re: Wabaunsee County 12/08
Always seems to be an adventure. Ride started out great, was making great time through the country. Made it all the way to southeast Wabaunsee county. Pulled off onto Dawson Hill Road - a low maintenance road that leads to Box Turtle Road.
I stopped at the top of a hill before descending a steep road into a valley to take a picture. Put the bike in gear, let out the clutch and the instantly bogs down and dies. Try it again with the same result. Decide I better take a closer look at things. Uh Oh, I see both ends of my chain hanging on the ground, and a big wad of chain around the counter sprocket. Hmmm, an hour from home, one mile down a low maintenance road, no chain tools. Thank god for a good cell signal. I call Mrs. Macwildcat, she tells me I'll owe her for this one. Had to talk her through Wabaunsee co. to get to to the corner of Skyline road where I was sitting (had to push the bike back a mile, good thing I didn't go down in that valley).
Strange chain brake, broke in the middle of a link. The chain must have broke within feet of where I stopped, and I was coasting - no pressure on the chain. Really glad it didn't break when I was in the middle of Box Turtle Road, I would still be trying to heft it out.
Here's the photos.

It's a great route, once I get things fixed I'll be ready to go again

So I guess ya' gotta ask: What the hell did David H do to this bike ....david h wrote:Dang Mac who sold that bike? (This is a quote from the boob man) Terry f from Topeka sold that hunk of junk to me. My first ride of 125 miles the chain broke, not a master link but in the middle of the chain. What the hell did Terry do to this bike was my first impression. After that I started to pamper the bike and bring it back to good condition. Far as I know the bike has never been down, well---------- except for 20-30 times. I changed oil every 5000 miles even if it really didn't need it. It worked out real well cause every time I needed to change my tractor oil the bike needed it also so I would just take the oil out of the tractor and fill up the bike. I think it calls for about 2 quarts to fill it up, so I would put in 4 so it would be twice as good. Now as far as the Rear wheel bearing goes, I'm calling BULLSHIT. After every ride I would hook up my 4000 psi power washer add some strong detergent and blast the hell out of the bike. Paying special attention to the rear bearing area to make sure any dirt or mud got washed out from behind the seals for the bearings . Now don't get me wrong that bike was never in Mud, but just in case I washed it anyway.
I think now that Mac has it that bike will have a long future , David H

Re: Wabaunsee County 12/08
I guarantee that KLX400SR was in fine shape when I sold it to David. I only owned it for about 8 months or so and never changed the oil once. I'm not sure I even checked the oil for that matter. I did pancake the suspension a number of times at Thunderhill with it chasing XR-nut on his fat pig 650. I also threw it down a ravine in Arkansas, (rather it threw me and I took it with me) and it almost took a helicopter to get it out. Other than that, I did keep the tires inflated properly. Are you supposed to lubricate the chain?..........

mac - I don't know if you got the PM's I've sent you or not? It shows they're still sitting in my Outbox? Anyway, I thought you would see this post. I'm thinking about going for a ride tomorrow 12/28 after lunch around the Wamego area if you're interested.
Might be best to email me at quinton4atcox dotnet

FYI, I suspect we have a problem with the forum email system right now. The forum is working fine, but not all the email alerts are getting sent it seems.Savage wrote:mac - I don't know if you got the PM's I've sent you or not? HOWEVER, with the PM system is working fine except the email notice that you have a message waiting may not make it. Messages show in your Outbox until the recipient opens it. This way you have the opportunity to cancel a message before the person reads it.
