Hey guys,
I went to Kaw Lake ORV yesterday to check it out. It's only a little over 1 hour for me to drive there so I was hopeful that I would find a good close riding area. I took my daughter and her boyfriend along as well. The place is about 10 miles East of Ponca City on Highway 11. The parking lot was washed out and rutted really bad and had to creep into the parking area. The sign there says it's 200 acres and It feels small. I think you could hit every trail there in less than an hour if you tried. The trails are either very sandy or very rocky, don't take your klx 650 there, you will need a light and nimble bike. I like to ride trails with tight technical sections but this was too much tight and technical. I'd say it's over 80% on your toes and working to stay on top of things. I'd prefer to ride trials with about 25% tight and technical and more open trails for the remaining 75% to relax and enjoy. There are some nice views of the lake there and a campground and boat ramp across the highway from the orv area.
Overall, I guess it would be a good place to sharpen your skills before a trip to Colorado/Missouri/Arkansas, but I wouldn't recommend it if you wanted to just enjoy yourself and spend the day riding. School creek has a better variety of trails for all skill levels in my book. Although I have to drive 3 hours to get there.

Re: Ride report: Kaw Lake ORV
I used to ride Kaw lake back in the late 80's - early 90's. The trails started out pretty good and got progressively worse as the ATV traffic increased. Too bad, used to be a great day trip for some follow the leader.
