Did anyone else ride to work today?

Pull up a couch. It's cool in the Lounge. Just remember to be a good neighbor.

Did anyone else ride to work today?

Post by JaySoy »

I couldn't break the streak of riding to work days, even though it was a torrential downpour.

Anyone else brave it this morning?

I rode in yesterday and it wasn't too bad, but I stepped out of the house in God's Country (Liberty) and decided it wouldn't be much fun riding to Lenexa today. My KLR also needs a chain and sprockets, so wasn't gonna chance throwing a chain in a downpour either.

Safiri? You ride today?

I have a 60 mile round trip and have been wussing out with the obvious rain. If there is a chance of rain but not raining when I get up in the morning, I usually risk it.

I was camping at Mulberry Mt in AR. We got the IKE treatment last night. Survived just fine. Lars (see my avatar) slept through the whole night. He is a mighty camper.

In answer to the real question: I left KC at 4am Friday morning for AR. Considering the rain I drove through, and considering the rain my neighbor described on my return today, I would have driven. Duh!

Wow. Liberty to Lenexa everyday? That can't be much fun. I guess you are going against traffic most of the time though.

It ain't too bad, better than getting about 12 mpg in the truck. Just can't do what Troy and you did and move to JoCo, I have too much pride  .

Yeah, I used to rent up north and about the time my lease expired, the company I work for (Cerner) moved engineering to the old Sanofi Adventis building in the Grandview triangle. I was commuting from Zona Rosa area to Grandview everyday. They was a fairly long drive.

Then I found that renting down here is like $100 less than just paying for a house.

I have a lot better garage now too. :)

I do miss being able to hit the backroads and the Weston hills so easily like I did up north. I lived in Liberty for a while too with my brother and thought that was a good mix of small town and city all in one.

Yeah, me too. I lived just West of Gladstone for 5 years. Now I live in S. Overland Park. However, I've found the gravel roads S of the metro do provide some interesting experiences. Nothing as good as the River Road, though.

How about the weather this week?! Fabulous riding!

Safiri, I saw you on my way to work yesterday (Tue). You were heading S on 69 just south of 103rd. I've definitely decided my next helmet will be plain white (like Safiri's). I've been paying attention lately to the riders I see. Nothing stands out more than a white helmet--better than red or yellow. My flat gray helmet is probably about as stupid a choice as I could have picked for safety.

Mine is Orange, White, Blue and Gray. How does that stack up as far as standing out? I can't tell if people are looking at me funny because I'm riding a dirt bike on the interstate or my goofy $400 helmet.

Actually, my experience is that white is the most visible, by far. And a lot cooler in the summer.

In Moab a few years back I was with Tracy and Brian. Brian with a white helmet and Tracy with a patterned blue & yellow helmet. I could spot Brian half a mile out in the scrub desert, whereas Tracy disappeared before a quarter of a mile. From up close, one would think the opposite. My helmet was white and Brian noted the same thing.

When riding I notice the white helmets a lot easier than I do any other color. I read of a study a few years back concerning motorcyclists taken to the hospitals after accidents in Britain. White helmets were very under-represented based on % of sales of helmet colors. I realize that youngin's doing stunts typically don't have white helmets, but interesting none-the-less.

Another great day to ride to work today. Nice waving to you again on 69 this morning, Safiri! You were ahead of schedule, as was I.

My chain went to crap, so I'll hopefully be changing it tonite to be able to ride in on the last day of the workday. Troy, I'm surprised since you live in JoCo, that you see too many helmets. These Kansas bozo's that don't wear any helmets just make me laugh, too bad we are paying for their healthcare after they mess up their melon on the pavement.

Well, no luck getting the chain and sprockets changed. Actually got the rear sprocket and chain on, but put the brake caliper on wrong, took the tire back off and the brake pad and other things fell out, so i put everything in a bag and will finish it this weekend. If anybody has some spare time and lives up by Liberty, I may need some expert help, since I'm pretty much a horrible mechanic.

Motarded every day this week. I have to switch bikes next week. Cop keeps giving me the dirty eye across the road. I think he wants me bad. Maybe its the wheelies in the park  Or maybe its all the black marks out on the turn lane into the lake from backn it in.
