RIDE WEEKEND SEPTEMBER 27/28 ON PRIVATE MOTOCROSS TRACK
RIDE WEEKEND SEPTEMBER 27/28 ON PRIVATE MOTOCROSS TRACK
OK guys, im extending an invite to come ride. Heres my plan- show up here sometime afternoon on Saturday 9/27 and ride on my track. Then Sunday 9/28 head up(10 miles) to ralley ridge point and do some trail riding. http://www.rallypointridge.com/index.html The managers of the riding park are considering putting a scavenger hunt on the 28th. If we show alot of interest here, it might help that idea along.
The track was built for beginner motocross skills, and can be ridden as slowly as you want. NO-ONE has to jump! If you do decide to step outside your comfort level, I will be more than happy to work with you and get you there. Its alot easier than it looks!
The trails up north are mostly 2-track atv trails, BUT, you can make your own trails and ride anywhere on the park. There are several more dificult trails in the park also.
I have plenty of space for tents or r/v's here, plus there are two local m/hotels. i will post phone #'s if anyone is interested. We have ONE shower at my house, which of course will be open to use for those camping. If it decides to rain during the nite, I have a large shop the campers can move into! (sabetha country inn {nice hotel} 284-2300 & koch motel 284-2145)
Food saturday nite will be on me, grilled burgers and brauts. Bring your own beverages . We can work out some breakfast plans also, being a SMALL town the resturant options are VERY limited!! !
Any ?'s or ideas post up.
please pm me if you plan to come so i can get a good number for food etc. thanks

Re: RIDE WEEKEND SEPTEMBER 27/28 ON PRIVATE MOTO TRACK
Right now I do not know a reason I could not make this weekend. I definitely want to.
I assume a good number of KC-based riders will want to take part. It is about a 2 hour drive from Kansas City to Joe's place--right, Joe? Let the carpooling plans begin!
I'm up for camping on you property there. I'm nervous about playing on the MX track, but I hope to really use the opportunity to learn how to handle my bike in the air. Right now, when both wheels leave the ground, I'm a nervous wreck and can't wait to get the wheels back to dirt. Heck, I can't even ride a wheelie.
Anyone looking for a low-cost machine to play in the dirt with, check out Daniel's YZ125 in the classifieds. Daniel is a great guy--you can feel safe doing business with him.

That sounds like alot of fun! I was wondering how many guys on this site do the moto thing. The 27 is the wifes birthday so I need to talk to her first. It might be a sat only thing for me. I will be doin some sweet talking tonight!
Anything with wheels is inherently dangerous. If you are concerned about your safety & well-being, I suggest walking, as a safe alternative

Re: RIDE WEEKEND SEPTEMBER 27/28 ON PRIVATE MOTO TRACK
troy- first- im two hours exactly from the great wolf lodge 1-70/435 interchange. second- your fears of jumping are exactly why we had the track built. it is very tame compared to every other moto track ive ever been on/seen. i bet anyone who races moto would even be bored on it. it was built by motokazie.com, a crew from MN came down. the idea was to build it so we could learn on safe jumps(ie- no drop between doubles, so if you come up short you wont "case" it). maybe next year we will have them come back and strech everything out, make it a little more challenging!
had another idea while at work today, being city guys-if any of you want to do some target/skeet shooting, bring your guns. i have a small collection and will gladly share. post on here so i can have an idea how much ammo i need! i have a 100yd hi-power backstop and a shootting bench/rest. plus all manor of little(.22lr) guns and spinners to entertain. we can turn this about as redneck as any of you desire!!!!
here is a pic from labor day of my youngest boy(joel, just turned eight) doing the table top jump! this was his first day clearing it!

As long as the equation is not BEER + GUNS + CLOSE PROXIMITY TO MX TRACK, this sounds like a hoot-n-nanny! I'd like there to be less than a 0.001% chance that I could get shot while playing on the track!

troy-it is a general rule of mine to NOT mix alcohol and motorcycles, or alcohol and firearms. there does that sound convincing enough?? motorcycles and firearms get mixed frequently tho!!!!troy wrote:As long as the equation is not BEER + GUNS + CLOSE PROXIMITY TO MX TRACK, this sounds like a hoot-n-nanny! seriously tho, my greatest hope for the weekend would be that some good friends come and learn something about themselves and their machines and have a good time, then EVERYONE return home safely. SO.....it should be agreed ahead of time(and its on my ride waiver for my track) that there will be NO alcohol consumed by anyone who is or will be riding. since i have no waiver for gun shootin', the same applies!!
hey savage, heres the coord's: N39'55.682 W095'49.700
i'd like to add that anyone with kids who ride bring them along, this should be family friendly!!
Re: RIDE WEEKEND SEPTEMBER 27/28 ON PRIVATE MOTO TRACK
those coords mean nothing to me - what town are you close to? thanks
Ahhh, pre-mix!!
Re: RIDE WEEKEND SEPTEMBER 27/28 ON PRIVATE MOTO TRACK
Just re-read my post and it could come across negative. I didn't mean it that way at all. Sorry if my typed words came across that way.

Re: RIDE WEEKEND SEPTEMBER 27/28 ON PRIVATE MOTO TRACK
A little effort.... Google can find a location using coordinates, but it wants decimal degrees format, not minutes seconds. So you can go here and enter the minutes seconds Joe gave you to get the decimal degrees. For example, in the top boxes, you'd enter these 3 values:
39 55 0.682
Once you have the decimal degrees, you can look them up on the map in Google Maps. HOWEVER, something that may not be obvious to you unless you are a real map geek is that you'll need to make the latitude value negative. You enter the coordinates as latitude, longitude. For example, enter this value into the map search box.
39.916856, -95.816861
Do I have to spoon feed you babies?! Joe is inviting you to ride his private MX track and a free dinner! If he wanted to tell you what town, he'd have done it. Instead he gave you coordinates. Look it up.

Re: RIDE WEEKEND SEPTEMBER 27/28 ON PRIVATE MOTO TRACK
Heck, you can even feed those coordinates into Yahoo Maps and have it route you there ... of course the route it created for me stopped a few miles short. I guess just get out of your cage and listen for 2-smoke exhaust.
So, to make it easy on you guys (and gals?), I drove up there just so you could have a GPS track to his place. Of course I had to take my MC along, but that is a different story.

GPS Exchange Format: http://home.everestkc.net/malsin/Motorc ... /XRNut.gpx
Note that the gps track is for a round trip. Took me two hours one way. Don't ask me to convert those ... you are on your own!

Re: RIDE WEEKEND SEPTEMBER 27/28 ON PRIVATE MOTO TRACK
Sorry guys, been pre-occupied with other things! Savage is correct we are a mile north and west of sabetha ks. North out of town on 14th street past the golf course, first left after the g/c pond(200th rd) then one mile west. There is a Rollie Free weather vane on my shop, and on my mail box, you cant miss it!
I have more details for sundays events at ralley point: it will be called a relay ride. basically the whole area will be split into sections with teams of 4 riders having to locate one another in the 4 sections. It prolly doesnt sound that great how im explaining it, but i think it will be fun anyhow. The entry for the relay ride is $20($10 for members), so that is a $5 savings on regular park entry, and you can stay and ride afterwards! The relay is NOT a race, but will have cash awards for the top three finishing teams. The crew at the park has worked hard this year to get the park up to speed and I sure would like to be able to bring a dozen or so bikes into this relay ride. I forgot to get the start time, but in our first conversations about the event they thought a start around 11:00 am so those who travel can get home at a decent time. Wether you plan to come to my place for some mx action or not, try to get up here for sundays ride!
The park does have a cabin that can sleep 6, plus just a few miles away another house with 6 spots also. They asked that anyone wanting to use these facilities call and reserve them ASAP!!!!!! Go to their site from the link in the first post and call them!!! Lets make this an epic weekend of motorcycle riding!!!!!

Re: RIDE WEEKEND SEPTEMBER 27/28 ON PRIVATE MOTOCROSS TRACK
Guys, it's time to get serious about this coming weekend. Who is planning to go?
I just checked the extended forecast. Obviously this amazing weather we are having can't last forever! Right now, Sabetha forecast shows a perfect Saturday and much cooler with perhaps some rain on Sunday. That's no problem for me!
I am definitely planning to go. I figure I'll haul up Saturday morning and return Sunday late afternoon.
I think the Sunday competition at the riding area sounds like a blast!

I'm not going to be able to make it. Wife is having a big garage sale, blah blah blah and then Sunday we hope to go watch the harescramble. I think my kids will love the bikes rippin' it up!
Just curious about how far is it around your track? half mile or so?
Someone please take some pics and post them up!!

I am sorely tempted to bring up the YZ125. Maybe someone can teach me how to ride it! I would not be spending the night though. How early on Saturday will the track riding start?

Re: RIDE WEEKEND SEPTEMBER 27/28 ON PRIVATE MOTOCROSS TRACK
I finally got the DRZ back together and took her for a test spin tonight...new shaft seals, chain & sprockets, water pump and thermostat. All is good. The next part I buy will be a KTM 525EXC
I am in for this weekend, bringing a tent for Saturday night. The only problem I foresee is keeping myself from catching too much air on the MX track, the old goat just doesn't have good enough suspension for my tastes. Looking forward to a good weekend of motorcycle mayhem
