Re: STREET RIDE TO OMAHA? SATURDAY THE 26TH
Yes, we rode to BMW omaha's open house. we(my 10 year old and i!) left sabetha about 9am and it was a little cool, 40 degrees! im lucky in that he is about the same size as his mother and can wear her gear. we made it to omaha and was 15 minutes from the store and he taps me on the shoulder and tells me he's freezing! come to find out he wore his motocross gloves and the let air up his sleeves! so i turned on his seat heater and he said that helped a little!
when we got there they had free food and demo rides, i didnt ride anything new as my rt only has 800 miles on it, so i figure thats new enough. besides if i rode something diff and brought it home id be dead! we did pick up some different gloves while we were there and his hands stayed warm on the ride home. doesnt hurt the weather warmed up 15 degrees~! the ride was just under two hours each way and he did well back there and said he enjoyed the ride.
i recently read a book called "wheels, a story about growing up" by doug grossjean, that is mostly about his experiences over a couple years time when he started taking long trips with his son on the motorcycle. i dont know why i hadnt thought about doing that, guess too absorbed in myself!, but now im planning a couple weekend trips with him. this trip to omaha was a learning trip for the both of us. while he has ridden his own motorcycle since he was 5, he did need to learn a few things about being a street passneger!
