Canal Ride

On Sunday November the 4th I followed the irrigation canal from Lovewell Lake to Guide Rock, NE. where there is a diversion dam on the Republican River. The canal empties into Lovewell Lake and then from Lovewell Lake it goes into another canal system and is used for irrigation in the Courtland, KS. area. There was no water being diverted into the canal at this time of year. I had to do quite a bit of backtracking because of dead ends along the canal. There are places that the canal goes under ground for as much as a quarter of a mile before it comes back up to ground level. When this happens the road along the canal stops.
