www.dualsportkansas.com?

Post by electrician »

Tonight, on a whim I checked out if any one had "dualsportkansas.com" already as their domain, and they didn't. I purchased it through Yahoo!'s domain server.
It would be really cool to build a simple web site with pictures and some info to direct you here, at rideforum.net.
I'll bet it gets a ton of hits, and Yahoo! has revamped thier search engine capabilites to get people to find you, and "dualsportkansas" is very search engine friendly.
A little help, Troy? You seem to be pretty damn good with the computer.

I spend quite a bit of time reading and viewing motorcycling related stuff of all types....and dual sport riding, compared to the rest of the motorcycling world, is largely unknown in the US.

I had a long sit down conversation with Richie Backus, editor in chief of "motorcycle classics", based out of Topeka, and owned by Ogden publications. I told him that a "dualsport" magizine, or webizine would be a huge hit here in the USA. As far as I know, there is no dedicated dualsport magizine right now. He presented the idea to his people at Ogden, and they looked into it. The market base was too small. They were not too interested in it, but that was about a year ago, and they liked the idea...
There is, however, a mag out of the U.K. dedicated to dualsporting, but it seems to favor asphalt.....If anyone has any ideas lemme know.

I like the way you think!

There are a few US-based dualsport magazines. I subscribed to one for a year, and oh boy did it suck. Hard to believe you could make a dualsport magazine boring, but they managed to pull it off.

The dualsport market RELATIVE TO THE MOTORCYCLE MARKET AS A WHOLE is tiny. I believe one reason is simply that people don't know about this style of riding.

Then there is the chicken & egg problem. Moto manufacturers and dealers don't want to make and stock dualsports if there is not a market for them, but there won't be a market for them if they don't make and sell them. I've said this 1,000 times, but oh man I wish Honda would make a current technology, lightweight, powerful, 400cc dualsport geared to handle trails and 70mph hwy runs. I think they'd sell like weed at woodstock.

dualsportkansas.com is a good domain name. I purposely left anything local out of my domain name. I went for "RideForum" as it is generic enough. It does not have to be only a Kansas City-based community or even strictly dualsport-related. In fact, it could be expanded to have sections for bicycles, waverunners, horseback riders, etc. (Not that I have any plans for that kind of expansion.)

If you are willing to donate the use of your domain to direct traffic to RideForum.NET (until you have another use of the name), that would be great! The best thing to do, from what I understand, is to create a "landing page" that has a lot of the keywords we'd expect people to be searching on. The content should be legitimately about dualsport riding of course. Then have links to direct people to RideForum.NET. You could also put Google Ads on the page and reap any income generated from the pay-per-click traffic. Don't quit your day job quite yet. ;)
