Hey Troy
Re: Hey Troy
I whole heartedly agree. Thanks Troy and every one else who participates in making this a friendly site.Savage wrote:Thank you for running a nice site with no drama. There's plenty of BS here, but it's the good kind. Keep it up.

Re: Hey Troy
It is good to be recognized for all I do around here. I am constantly censoring posts and banning abusive folks from the forum in my efforts to keep this a safe, friendly community. Hours of server maintenance and firewall configuration can keep a guy up late into the night. It's a tough job.
Thanks for the kind words, guys. Seriously, though, this community is what it is because of...well...the community. I've literally never had to censor any posts other than deleting obvious spam posts and accounts. I would censor a post or ban a user if things got seriously offensive or abusive, but that's just not how you guys roll. Probably the closest thing to being family un-safe we've had at RideForum was Hank Moody's old avatar--any of you remember that?! I had to be careful opening threads at work if he posted in it! He now has a VERY family-friendly avatar. Where you been, D?
I started RideForum.NET with the simple goal to create an effective, efficient communication system for like-minded dualsport riders in the general KC metro area.

As far as my actual time and money investment, this forum uses the free, popular phpBB software. I host it on an Amazon Web Services (AWS) "micro instance" that costs me about $5/month. Other than an occasional software update or re-design, I don't have to touch the system.
We don't have a lot of rules around here. For example, if somebody wants to create an account just to post their motorcycle in our classifieds, we are fine with that. (No need to reach a minimum post level.) If folks want to post a ride report on AdvRider (or anywhere else) and just post a link here--that is fine and even recommended and encouraged. "Linking" people to relevant information is the core purpose of this forum.
Thanks!
