ACCIDENT SCENE MANAGEMENT COURSE - Feb. 23-24

Post by ajayhawkfan »

The KC BMW Motorcycle Club is helping sponsor these accident scene courses.

A number of friends took the course and most are wanting to do it again. They said it was very educational. For instance, in a motorcycle accident you should never remove a riders helmet (something that happen on a Back Road Tours Stampede a few years ago) EXCEPT when the rider is not breathing. This class show how to remove the helmet and then give CPR.

I'm going to try to make it.

Contact the people at the end if interested and let me know if you sign up.

ACCIDENT SCENE MANAGEMENT COURSE - Feb. 23-24, Vocational Services, Inc., Liberty, MO. 9 a.m.- 5 p.m. each day. $65 per class.

Continuing Education credits are given for both courses if you need additional CE credits.

Riders don't have to take both courses over the weekend. They can attend the Basic course first and take the advanced course at a later time.

Basic: "A Crash Course for the Motorcyclist"
• Identifying how to prevent further injury;
• Assessing the situation & gather information for the EMS;
• Effectively contacting EMS;
• Treating the injured in a logical manner using the ABCSS of trauma;
• Identifying other life threatening injuries that can be treated at the scene;
• Identifying common environmental first aid problems requiring immediate care.
• How to remove a full-face helmet safely.

Advanced: "Advanced Bystander Assistance"
• Identifying different levels of EMS, who may respond and how you can interact with them;
• Discussing techniques to maintain an airway such as safely clearing an airway and properly inserting an oral airway;
• Identifying 3 common medical emergencies, what to do about them in the field and how to recognize when to call for help;
• Identifying a femoral fracture, how and why to apply traction and how to transfer traction;
• Performing a head-to-toe assessment to look for injuries;
• Describing the importance of a leader at a crash scene as well as the many roles of bystanders and tasks that may need to be performed.
• Recognizing signs of critical incident stress and ways to reduce post traumatic stress.
More detailed information about each course can be found on the ASMI website: www.accidentscene. net.

This training sounds essential. As of right now, my plan is to attend both classes.

Sat, Feb 23 conflicts with another event I wanted to attend. :(

Now Sat Feb 23 conflicts with an important event I plan to attend that evening. I'd have to leave the training to head home about 3:30. Not sure I want to pay the fee and drive up there if I can't complete the class. :cry:
