'07 565 KTM EXC

Post by Stu »

Curado asked me if I wanted my 565 back that I sold to him a couple of months ago and I said yes so I have a ride again. My DS ride, with a violent twist. With a crank that is 1 1/2 lbs. lighter, a 7 oz. lighter flywheel, a full Akrapovic system, the over bored cylinder, Dick's Racing taper bore carb, torque cam, a sorted out, gearwise, gearbox for an even spread between all gears it tears rear knobs off with the wild abandon of a young stripper. WooHoo! A gravel throwing demon! DS rides here I come!

Stu, I was sorry to see you had to give up the heavy off road stuff, but we'll all get there eventually. My exact thoughts were, "I bet he'd like to have the 525 back", and it looks like it's going to happen. The '25 is perfect for what you probably want to do. and it will still have some of the feel and personality of the 300. Sounds like a win/win all around.

Congrats.

Currently in a holding pattern. Dave Hodges has the 565. My lower back finally just said, "OK, 50 years of pounding on me is enough. I'm breaking up." Too bad that KTM's "Alpina", the 350 Freeride, is not being imported until 2013.

What to do....

Rumor is that a member of this board had (or is having?) a Freeride 350 brought in. I'm extremely jealous and hoping for a test ride.

I won't give out any names, but if he (or she) chooses to reply here, we'd all welcome hearing more!

That would be cool. The Freeride 350 is advertised as weighing 220 lbs. Since the 350 EXC weighs about 245 this would be extremely light for a DS bike. The shorter wheelbase also makes it more like a trials bike in tight woods. Honda's new 250L is advertised as weighing 330 lbs with the twin cam 250 engine. Will the Honda handle like the KTM 690 R in tight stuff? The KTM is 17 lbs. lighter than the 250 Honda.
