Interesting Doctor Visit Today

I had an appointment today for an MRI with contrast on my shoulder, due to a crash back in July. So I went in prepared for “The Lecture” about riding dirt bikes at my age (47). I’m setting there on the x-ray table the doctor walks in a room across the hallway and starts washing his hands. He says “What kind of bike do you ride?” I say my usual, “You probably never heard of it, a Husqvarna.” I was expecting oh yeah they make chainsaws…, but he says I’ve got a TE 610!
Well he not only has a Husqvarna he has a KTM 200 smoker and a Gas Gas trials bike plus he was wearing a KTM shirt. We talked for about 30 minutes until his x-ray tech came in and said I had to go to the MRI suite now or they would be behind schedule. The x-ray tech said that she loves dirt bikes too and she learned to ride on a bultaco!
Needless to say I didn’t get “The Lecture” about not riding, but the lecture about getting back out there! Wow, what an experience! I can’t say enough about Leavenworth KC Imaging! I went in feeling depressed and came out excited….

Hope Daryl turned them on to this site ... Heck, Daryl is, as my wife likes to tell people, "a guy I picked up off of the internet".

That's awesome! Not very many people dual sport and VERY FEW Docs ride bikes anymore.

Yes, I gave him our web site address and I hope he can add to our discussions!

You get that shoulder healed up Daryl, the spring gimp ride is just around the corner! I meet for a followup tomorrow with my neurosurgeon. So far he has been pretty supportive of my dirt bike riding in the upper 40 age range also. Neck feels pretty good, but I think the weight of a helmet would bother me pretty quick.
Gonna kill me to not take a trip to Mill Creek this fall, but I'm pretty sure my neck isn't ready yet. Started up both bikes yesterday, and starting grinning just hearing those bike purr.
I'm also recovering from a bout with H1Ni. Now I have a healthy respect for the capability of this flu to kill you. Thought I was going to die (or wished I would). I wasn't ready for a flu that could be so painful. Out of work a week, and still trying to get my energy level back.

You picked up the pig flu? How'd that happen? Eatin too much bacon? That sucks man. How did you know you had it?
I got the klx and drz out. Took them around the block a couple times. Felt good to be back on it, I just need help getting on and off.

Went to an opthamologist a month ago. He saw my Letko Cycles gimmie cap. Turned out he had Ducatis from them. We ended up going over to see Jim K together that weekend so he could see the new street fighter. (He loved it.) The tear at the back of my eye I went in for? "Just age. Live with it. It won't bother your riding any."
Yesterday I rode at Perry with a couple of young guys from Topeka. Fast. We flew. Just great. Today on the operating table (a carpal tunnel release surgery) while the doc was cutting we talked about the "good old days" riding Bultacos!
Tore my left shoulder again.... That surgeon said, "You have three options: your can ignore the pain, you can take meds or you can have surgery. Just remember you are stressing 69 year old muscle tissues." I chose to ignore the pain and just ride. He said that was OK since I did not have to lift my bike over my head and the affected tissues were only those.
Out of riding for a few weeks with the hand, however. Then it is the RideForum motto: LET'S RIDE!

Good news! I got a full release from my surgeon Thursday. Said the neck fusions healed up really well - only six weeks out. Gonna try a ride this weekend to see how a helmet feels.
I figure I got the H1N1 from a pesky KSU coed! Came down with it the day after a home game. Doctor did the nasal swab test that came back positive for the swine flu. Still a little weak, one ugly little bug. Good thing we don't have our own RideForum group insurance. Either the premiums would be outrageous, or the company would be broke.
