Well, as Flash Gordan and I quickly approach liftoff for West Fest, and being that this is my first long-distance ride of any sort, what other trail gear do you guys carry for long distance besides tools (I know, I know, we already covered those,) and the other common sense items, (clothes, tent poles, ibuprofen.) I'm most interested about the unusual items you guys carry, (not that unusual Tim
.) So hit me with recommendations.

clutch/brake levers, zip ties, master link, mountain money (toilet paper), light sticks, nuts/bolts, small folding saw, beef jerky, allergy meds, safety glasses (don't seem to fog up when it's raining like goggles do). Don't know if any of this will help?

I Will now start taking a chain breaker. I got a good Motion Pro one the other day that does it all. On long trips i take an oil filter, sprockets, Clutch cable, throttle cable and bearings/seals. I know a bit odd on the bearings but my touring bike is getting some miles on it and stuck in some remote area is not a situation I want to deal with. My trip in Aug to Nova Scotia is going to be a long one (8000 miles +) so I had to rethink what I take. Oh heres more, spark plug, a LED head lamp for working on the bike( hands free that way), jumper cables (small), mmmmmmmmm......... I will think of more just wait

The odd thing I bring on all trips is a bottle of water with a little liquid soap in it. I use the soapy water to find the leak in a flat tire. The soap makes it bubble, making it very easy to find.
