I was listening to a podcast early this morning, as I am apt to do. I listen to a variety of podcasts, and this morning's treat was an episode of Adventure Rider Radio

One of the guests was Leon Logothetis. Leon rode a 1978 Chinese motorcycle with a sidecar around the world. The twist is that he was reliant on the kindness of strangers for gas, food, and lodging. Whenever he met someone whose extreme kindness overwhelmed him, he gave them a life-changing gift.

He created a TV show from the experience called The Kindness Diaries. It is available on Netflix until August 1st.

I am on Season 1, Episode 6 right now. I've enjoyed it so far. No surprise that the people who have the least tend to be the most generous.

I just finished the last episode, episode 13. My wife watched the series with me. We really enjoyed it, and it has a great message.

I watched that earlier this year and also really enjoyed it. Wonder how much it helps with not looking shady to have a camera crew following you around though. I'm guessing it helps. [emoji1303]

If I tried to go around the world on kindness with my KLR and a smile... not sure I would get too far.

My favorite episode was Detroit. Someone with nothing sharing everything.

Yeah, he talks about that aspect--that he had a huge advantage in the old, yellow, interesting sidecar motorcycle and a 2 to 3 person crew following him with cameras. That obviously is VERY different than a guy alone walking up and asking to stay at your house for the night.

He said that old sidecar was a terrible choice for a RTW trip because it was going to break down multiple times without a doubt. But he said that was part of why he chose it--it was old and quirky so a natural conversation starter. Having to find someone to help with repairs added to the social opportunities.

The cameraman aspect is something I always think about when watching "reality" shows. Most do a good job of making you forget the cameras are there and somehow the people on screen avoid looking at the cameras most of the time...or at least that's the footage that makes the cut.

For example, if I'm ever at Home Depot and a nice, clean-cut guy with a professional camera man approaches me and asks if he can come home with me to see my backyard, the answer is "Yes". (Anyone watch Backyard Crashers?)
