It is way cool.
I've only got it down to the ranch for two rides but I have no complaints other than my riding skills.
Now I'm working on a bike for my 11-year-old son. Wife is not too keen on the idea but I am. I have a line on a ttr125 and a drz125. Thought about two strokes for him but he is a new rider and the four strokes will be much more forgiving!

The first time I took it out the suspension was awfully rough. I could feel the rear wheel skipping over small stuff on the gravel roads. Off road it was a "little" harsh. Before the next ride I softened everything two clicks, turned the high speed adjustment on the rear shock to full soft and set the rear spring sag. Next ride was MUCH MO better. I cannot imagine if I had bought a 250. I would probably be stuck to some tree I'm sure.
It was entertaining having my wife help me set the sag... Fortunately my son came home and was much more patient and helpful.
I had heard much what you said about the TTR125 and DRZ125. Others say just pick the color. In this case the DRZ125 is blue so I think it will come down to who will give me the best price. They will be a little tall for him as a beginner but I haven't seen any used small wheel models.

Oh good lord yes you can tell the weight difference, it's amazing. The engine is easily as powerful as the KDX - it RIPS! Probably less torque down low but the flywheel weight helps. I haven't stalled it yet.
Only crashed once and that was on the slick mossy slime covered concrete ramp covered with flowing water from one of the strip pits. I was going around my daughter on her four-wheeler and goosed it a little as I came around her. Since the bike was not directy straight up it flew right out from under me leaving me standing there. My son yelled at my daughter saying it was all her fault. I assured him it was all my fault. He wouldn't have any of that though. "If she hadn't stopped it wouldn't have happened!"
Kids can never lose an arguement...
