Ingenious Touchscreen Mod for your motorcycle gloves

Post by troy »

While riding in the St. Francis forest this past weekend, Sean was testing out his new Android phone setup on his bars. It was a huge success! We'll post up more details on that in another thread. Sean brought along some thin, touchscreen-compatible gloves, but once they were soaked, he switched to his normal riding gloves. The problem was these gloves were not compatible with touchscreen. See how Sean solved his problem in this video we made to help all riders facing this important issue!

Fail for 2 reasons. 1. Cut off the tip of your left index finger. Not your throttle hand. 2. Cut the tip off the touchscreen glove and put it over your riding glove like a finger condom. :D
Ahhh, pre-mix!!

Sean purposely cut off the index finger of both gloves because he uses both hands. Also, the 2 fingers allowed him to pinch and zoom. Of course the video is in jest anyway.

Your idea to cut off the tips of the other gloves is a good one. It's basically what these are:

I guess that sounds better than finger condoms.

I finally got around to putting a cell phone mount on my VStrom. What I didn't realize until that time was that starting with the Galaxy S6, touch sensitivity was increased to use gloves. For the most part, I had good luck with mine.

Prior to the S6, there was a setting which increased the sensitivity to allow glove usage, although I can't speak for how well this works.

One can also buy some conductive thread and stitch through the (empty) fingers of your gloves.

Sorry to hijack a joke thread. I did enjoy the graphics identifying this as a RideForum.net "Pro Tip"

First in the series of Official RideForum.NET Pro Tips" series of videos. Not.

I've heard the thread thing works, too.

Sean's setup was a $50 Kyocera Hydro waterproof android running OSMand (free, open-source) and free maps & POI (street & topo). It worked fantastic and provides a lot more functionality than my more expensive Garmin. With his fancy bar-mount and all, he said he's in for under $80.

I am urging Sean to document his setup for others to learn from.

That would be great! I'd like to start tinkering around with GPS and trail maps, but not enough to shell out the $$ for a Garmin unit.

A true Adventure rider would have done the mod/s without taking the glove off. :P
