It appears that Husqvarna is a year ahead of the pumkin patch again!!

The TE's are EFI for 2008, no more tweeking the old carb

Okay, I'm sorry for my pumkin patch comment. KTMs are great bikes and I'm sure I will own one some day. It's just that all of mags just overlook Husqvarna for the most part. But that is directly related to the amount of money Husqvarna pays in ads. Hey why spend money on ads when you sell out every year.

For those of you that are considering a move from the big four please give the Huskys a look, you will be impressed. Troy are you listening????

Perhaps this is one good thing BMW can bring to Husky.

(BTW, is BMW buying Husky?)

The Japanese manufacuterers have been ~toying~ with EFI on thier Japanese series dirt bikes for a coule of years now. BMW has been producing EFI bikes since at least 1985 (my K bike), and 01 with the F series.

My F650 consistently gets 50 - 60 mpg at 70-75 mph. The gearing is aimed at cruising at 55 - 65 mph, so a change in drive ratio might help this mileage number.

Add to that not toying with a carb when you change elevation, temperature, etc.

I would check to make certain the EFI pump would put enough pressure into the system with a dead battery so that you could kickstart it, presuming that kicking it could produce enough electrical power to run the pump. Carbs don't need that. In engineering everything is, as you know, a trade off.

From everything I've read it is a done deal, but no offical annoucement.

I have a guy wanting to trade his 06 TE610 with <500 miles and some farkles for my KLR, not even of course, got any comments or suggestions? He says it has too much motor for him? I have heard good on the Huskys but don't know them like I do the KLR.

The TE610 is like the KTM LC4-640. Low maintenance. Very reliable.

The TE510 and 450 are like the KTM RFS bikes. More maintenance.

If you want a dual sport bike this would be a definite step (or two or three) in that direction compared to your KLR.

Carl, somebody who could compare those 2 bikes better than about anybody is Mark "BigDog" Sampson. His website and ride reports are at http://www.bigdogadventures.com

He owns and has ridden both machines on epic journeys through the Rockies , Mexico, and the TAT.

If you read through his reports, you'll find a lot of his opinion on his various bikes. I'm sure he'd take time to reply if you emailed him. Mark rode over here and joined us on a Lawrence-based ride and on a Wichita-based ride.

Do it and then sell to Hayden!!! No seriously, it is a great bike and it would be a big power change from the trusty KLR. Just think of adding more horse power and losing 50 pounds of bike!

Just talked to the guy on the Husky. He is in Milwaukee. He wants $6500

for his bike towards mine at $4K. His has less than 500 miles and some extras like skid palte and heated grips. I don't think I can come up with that kind of difference and not positive it would be worth it if I could. I think it sold new for $7100 but not sure. We are supposed to trade some pictures but I think I probably should sell the KLR and go shopping.

I agree he is very proud of that 610. I would offer him $5,500.00, but that's me
