Hi guys!
Im going to do the "doo-hickey" upgrade on my 2006 klr650, and am hoping to find someone in the area who has either done this before or knows a good mechanic. I just got back from Buena Vista CO and would like to have that done before the next adventure down in the Ozarks. I am also looking forward to meeting some folks on here who want to do some cruisin in the KC area. Thanks in advance!

Sorry I can't help you, but welcome to the forum! I haven't done it, but it shouldn't be too hard. You will need the tool, or cut a wrench and weld it so you can turn the nut.
I think there is a thread on ADVrider where guys ship the tool around to whoever needs it next.
Maybe post on ADV in the Kansas thread. You may get a local KiLeR rider to help you out.

You can try Olathe Suzuki, they are pretty good, but again most bike shops are closed on Mondays.

Let me know how the "doo" upgrade goes. I am new to this forum and to riding as well. I just picked up an 08 KLR and am heading to CO next week. Any ride reccomendations? I picked up this book (
https://www.amazon.com/Complete-Guide-M ... sons+steve) from Steve Farson at the library... it all looks pretty amazing.
I love the idea of KLR guys shipping the tools you need around so we don't have to buy them for a one time upgrade. I'm going to check that out!

MTK - They say it's not near as important to do the doo on the 08+ models. I haven't touched mine nor has a friend was almost 30k on his. You do want to keep an eye on your oil level though. Mine doesn't use a drop of oil but it seems some of the 08's did. Moreso if you ride at higher RPMs for an extended amount of time. The 08's rear shock tend to not allow you to stiffen up the spring. You will know if it is not working right because when you turn the bolt it will turn very easy. Luckily it's an easy fix.

Good luck with the new bike and the trip!

Thanks for the advice! I have been watching the oil level on mine and it has been rock solid... I haven't messed with the suspension much yet... but I will check out that website.
Thanks for the help!

Thanks for the replies! Ive also seen that, where they will ship you the tool so you dont have to buy one.. thats awesome. If your headed to CO to ride I woukd highly suggest Phantum Canyon which is near Victor CO. That canyon is epic. Also tincup pass in St. Elmo is amazing...
