Hey guys - working with a friend up in MN to replace his DRZ400Sm.
He's looking for a factory street legal bike.. Anyone interested in taking a look at the craigslist link and tossing out some general thoughts on the bike?
Is this a good year, potential issues, etc? Seems low hours and low miles.. but is that price high?

2007 KTM 525EXC - Thoughts?
Re: 2007 KTM 525EXC - Thoughts?
This looks like a great bike, not very many hours, that is the last year of the RFS engines I believe which were renowned for their longevity!
Now as far as price I personally think it is a bit high, I sold mine 2 years ago with twice as many hours for $4,500 and it had more aftermarkets parts...
FWIW and just to give you another data point, the dealer is giving me $4,300 for my 2013 husaberg (which is just a blue KTM) with 110 hours.
Good luck with his buy, if he is okay with the price, this looks like a great bike that would last him a long time!!!

That bike looks really well kept. If the 525 is what he wants, I think he'd have a hard time finding a nicer one.
Luc you trading in your 501 for something?

Thanks Luc, appreciate the feedback. I did spend some time talking with the owner earlier.. Only reason for selling is younger son is on a cr125 and the difference in bikes is too much for enjoyable time together.. He actually wants to replace it with a 125 to ride with his boy.gagnaou wrote:This looks like a great bike, not very many hours, that is the last year of the RFS engines I believe which were renowned for their longevity!

Seemed a bit indifferent as to the bike actually selling or not. 4800 seems to be his price point per discussion on the phone.

Savage, thanks also for your thoughts. The prospective buyer up in MN is looking for a good woods bike, that has plenty of go when we get out in the open, but also wants something that is somewhat nimble in the single track. We don't ride at race speeds, more just go out and have fun.Savage wrote:That bike looks really well kept. If the 525 is what he wants, I think he'd have a hard time finding a nicer one.

When we snowmobile, he's got the fastest sled putting out around 170hp that will easily run 125 mph or more(things start becoming airborn around 120 on the sleds) but that top speed is only seen a couple of times a year, mainly speeds are kept in the 70 or less range. It's more about when we hit the openings and everyone starts to twist, who's got the most pull.
The buyer is in his mid 50's and likes the Cadillac for rides. Being the fastest guy on the tight single track or being the first guy to tire out and relax the pace really isn't a concern. None us us in that group really ride for anything other then to have a good time with good friends. Am really the only one pushing to improve my technique etc in that group.
Thanks again for all the great feedback.
