Greetings everyone!

While I have had a good time passing emails back and forth with Troy, I thought I should take a moment and say hello to everyone.. So Hello! =)

Little history: Wife and I moved in the last couple of years down from Northern Minnesota, the job brought me down here and to my horror, I found I can't just ride my dirt bike from my front yard to trails that connect all around the state.. What's up with that? Was there some sort of War down here against dirt bikes? I can see all the fuss about them silly quads and such, but dirt bikes!?!

When we moved we sold our previous bikes (DRZ400sm for me, DRZ400s for my wife) (also sold the snowmobiles) and spent a couple of years getting the job, house stable for our newborn.

Well, this spring I couldn't handle the withdrawl any more and purchased a new 14 WR450f. Went ahead and put the FMF Q4 slip on, the racing ECM w/shorter throttle stop screw and picked up the programmer to go along with it. Few weeks later hauled it all the way up to MN to rides with some of the friends up there. Love it, the bike just rips and is so much more controllable then my old KX250 2t that was setup somewhat for woods riding.

So, here I am a month later going through withdrawls again, my next trip up to MN isn't until late Aug (MN state fair time) and am looking for a few good people to do some trail riding local (what ever that might mean down here) with. I can ride fast, or I can ride slow, I enjoy riding with others and have no problems riding with kids, watching them learn is almost as much fun as riding myself. Am not really into the racing scene (MX or harescramble), although that might change if my Son sparks an interest.

I've been over to Perry Lakes (think that's the name) a while back with the DRZ, found it to be really small and it seemed the quads just went everywhere, no real trail anywhere. I do hope that is not the case everywhere down here and there are area's that are just nice single track trails.

So yup, that's some info about me - Am open to ride weekends or occasionally during the week depending on what my Job schedule looks like (week day rides will be short notice, equipment broke or some such getting repaired, etc).

Also want to give a shout out to Troy for providing this Forum - I've searched high and low and there is just not a "good meet up" place for anywhere around here (thumpertalk, ADVrider are about it).

To toss out a quick question - who's been to finger lakes - I think that is just north of Columbia over to the east on 70? Is it decent over there? I live on the east side of KC out on 70 and that might be close enough to make it a spur of the moment ride. =)

Welcome Lunchman! Glad you made it over. I think you'll find most trails around here are similar to Perry. IMHO the nice trail riding season around here is Fall. Then Spring, Winter, Summer in that order.
My family and I recently rode at Carbondale KS. Sounds like something you would like.

IMHO, yes. In the summer, trails gets freaking humid, poison ivy, spiders landing on your goggles and crotch.
In the winter I just heat my hands off the exhaust and keep on riding.

Hey lunchman! I am also new to this forum, but I try to ride at least once a week in the dirt, or mud / water this year lol. I also do some adventure touring. There are several places within 2 or 3 hours from here. Chadwick(farthest but driest), Finger Lakes, Milford lake, and you already talked about Lake Perry. These are all pretty close. They are right, spring and fall here is awesome, the trails get pretty overgrown in the summertime, and you have to watch yourself on some blind corners on the weekends. I just try to be careful, or possibly ride during the week. I hope to be meeting some of you soon and going out on a ride or two! Happy to have a forum like this for riders around the Kansas City area! Thank you!

I'm recovering from tearing up my shoulder (again) but can show you around Perry Lake's trail system since I know every one of them. Some are hidden from the ATV riders. You might also consider joining the Big Springs riding area which has a 9 mile hare scramble course, a MX course and a grass track/TT course. I could show you everything there as well. It is very close to KC. My surgeon said Oct. 7 for hitting the trails again and this time I think I will pay attention. Too may tears and too much surgery. Just don't want to do that again.

Sounds like you've been dealing with a rotator cuff repair Stu. Those are painful.

Ryno - a meetup/ride sounds great! Welcome to the forum. Troy's got an outstanding forum here, he's a great guy and a wealth of information. Has provided a ton of information regarding just about everything motorcycles for a newbie like myself to this area. Sadly, haven't ridden much except for a ride a few weeks ago, lately just been on my small patch of land here.

Ouch! Am not sure I can keep up/not as dedicated, for work always calls come Monday morning! A tour around Perry sounds great, last time I went I didn't know we could ride on the other side of the creek.. Am told I only saw about half of the area, so it must not be as small as I originally thought.

Is your shoulder a product of riding or something else? Do hope you heal up well and having a forced by doc down time till October sounds absolutely horrible.. Send me a note as soon as your ready to go!

This heat is just crazy! Does anyone even bother to fuel the dirtbikes in this sort of weather? All I want to do is run from one AC area to the next. One of those side by sides with an enclosed cab and AC is sounding better and better all the time... *Gasp*

Looking at the forecast with no end in sight, can we expect a break by the end of August? Or is it we'll into Sept before it returns to semi livable conditions?

Toughen up Nancy! Just get out and ride and tell yourself you are getting in shape and conditioning. That's what I tell myself when I'm sick of not riding and going stir crazy sitting in the house.
You can tell me the same thing this winter when I'm complaining because it's below 32 degrees.

And you asked for it, this winter when its 20 degree's out, am gonna be all over ya to go riding! I can handle the cold, no problems, the heat... ahh.. not so much.

Getting in shape and conditioning - yup, got that covered each day getting in and out of the truck for work. =)
