I recently saw an ad for these Rescue Pegs. Did a little looking around a found a good review along with pics. I tried to place an order last evening but couldn't get it to go through with free shipping. Emailed the owner and he emailed back in 5 minutes. He called me tonight and got the order placed. I should receive them this week.
I don't know that I'll use them that often, but I've wanted to put passenger pegs on the 300 for years. These look to be a nice option to use for the kids for some easy trail riding. Or I can put them on one of their little dirt bikes and they can cruise around with a cousin. Anyway, I just thought I'd pass along what I came across what I think is an intelligent invention!

I think your idea of using them locally to facilitate easy 2-up dirt bike play is the only use that makes sense.

They market them as "rescue pegs" with the thought that your buddy breaks down or gets hurt bad 50 miles out in the boonies. The problem I have with that scenario is they think I was going to carry those large, heavy, sharp rescue pegs in my dirt bike luggage or backpack? No way! Heck, I already don't have room to bring tools and parts I probably should. Maybe I should pack a welder, too, you know---just in case.

That said, if one of my riding buddies wants to purchase and lug these things around, I'll really appreciate them when he has to haul me and my broken leg back to the truck.
