Gov. Brownback to usurp Corps of Engineers duties.

Gov. Brownback has requested that the State of Kansas take over control of recreational activities at some of the Kansas lakes. How do you think that would affect the future of Perry, Randolph and School Creek ORV areas? Governor Brownback is a motorcycle enthusiast, but as far as I know, there are no ORV areas at the current State Parks. According to the article I read, the Corps of Engineers is not jumping at the idea so maybe there is nothing to worry about.

Interesting. Thanks for posting this, Rick.

100% of the comments are negative about Brownback and his plan. I stay way away from politics and don't even know much about Brownback, but based on the complaints, it sounds like he is pro recreational and even commercial use of public lands, which probably bodes well for keeping ORV areas open. It was clear that most of the people posting comments would probably be the type who would like to see the ORV areas closed.
I've said this 1,000 times, but if we shut down ORV areas and the reason is cited as damage to the environment and wildlife, then every golf course needs to shut down. What is a golf course but total destruction of a wild area for purely recreational purposes? Pollution? How about the millions of pounds of chemicals dumped to keep the grass green? How about the pollution from the excessive mowing to keep the greens looking perfect? And who wants to look at those pants?!
