Google Maps on Android...

Some people may have noticed but for those who haven't, Google maps released an update recently. No surprise there. However, under "My Places" in the "offline" section you can now download large map segments to your device for use when you know you will not have service. This could be old news to some of you but I figure there are at least a few of us who may have missed this new feature. It was actually a few updates back when it first appeared but it did not function properly on my Sprint Evo. They used to limit you significantly and although there are still limits, they cover a much larger area that I found much more user friendly.

I had not noticed. I just played with the feature a little. It fails on my Verizon Thunderbolt with 11MB of selected area. Successfully Q'd for download when I only selected 2MB of area. Hmmm... Thanks for the post!

I had a similar issue until the update this morning. Mine would stay Q'd and never start downloading. I can now download about 85mb sections at a time. :D

OK, so that's where I'm at. Hopefully I'll get an update soon.

Seems buggy on my wife's original EVO. Sometimes it works and other times it doesn't. Maybe the new update will resolve that.

I like Nokia's plan for it's new Windows phones. All maps are available offline. No need to cache. I hear they have some of the best maps as well.
