My brother and I just returned from a Labor Day weekend in Disney, OK camping and riding the off-road area below the dam. I have to say WOW!
I'm not sure how this place is kept such a secret, but I'm told it is 2500 acres of playground! The area and trails are designed for big 4x4 rock crawlers and such--not motorcycles. However, the area is VERY enjoyable on motorcycles! Of the 1 or 2 hundred vehicles playing there this past weekend, Kyle and I were almost the only motorcycles there. We did see a father & son riding around on motorcycles.
What makes the area so great is the amazing variety of terrain. You can play in the woods on soft dirt trail with berms. You want hill climbs? You won't be disappointed! You want sand? There is a little of that. You want water crossings--you can do that and play in the spillway to your heart's content. Then there are the "rock gardens" in the spillway--acre after acre of solid rock to crawl around on. If you've ever had the joy of playing on Moab's slickrock, it's a similar experience. The rock at Disney is not as smooth as the slick rock, but it provides 100% traction like the misnamed "slickrock". It's really fun picking your lines through and over the rock watching for cracks that might swallow your front tire. When the rocks have beaten you up, head back into the woods and pick up the pace. Once you get too hot, take a dip in the many swimming holes.
We stayed at
Hogan's Off-road camp which is in Disney and connected to the trails. The town of Disney even allows off-road vehicles on their streets to get gas and food. There are decent cafes in Disney. (You must ride along the side of the main drag which is a state highway.)
Hogan charges $15/night to camp and has a nice shower/toilet house.
