Out of the Wild: Venezuela

I rose early on Sunday, as I do every day--easily 2 or 3 hours before the rest of my family. Sat & Sun mornings are my time to enjoy a cup of coffee and watch a movie--if I'm not out riding.
So this Sun, I ended up glued to the TV for about 4 hours watching all 8 episodes of the Discovery Channel's
Out of the Wild: Venezuela on Netflix.

Nine ordinary people were flown in, dropped off and abandoned in a remote corner of Venezuela's southern frontier — a lost world that once lured explorers in search of El Dorado. Now the volunteers, armed with only the most basic supplies, must traverse 70 brutal miles of uncharted terrain back to civilization.
No prizes or money and very little crap.
They have another one based in Alaska I'm going to watch next.

Saw the Alaska one. Good TV. Basically they starved for a few weeks until they made it out.

I just finished up the Alaska episodes, too. Yeah, the common denominator in both experiences comes down to food. When they found something to eat, they were doing great. When they went a couple days without food, life sucked.
I just found another Discover series I'm watching on Netflix called
Dual Survival.

It's a couple of guys who are "survival experts" with very different approaches. Cody is a hippie and a gatherer who operates slow and methodically. Dave is a hunter and military trained sniper who attacks survival situations in a head-on, aggressive manner. They grind on each other a little, which adds some unnecessary drama, but the show is educational. I've enjoyed 2 episodes of season 1 so far.

Started watching these the other day at 'lunch.' Pretty interesting show, about half way through Venezuala, will definitely watch Alaska as well.

Yeah you know they were hungry when they were carrying that bloody porcupine carcass around in grizzly territory. Crazy!!
I've seen a couple of the hippie vs military survival shows as well. Thought the hippie was fairly smart until the episode where they were in the knee deep snow and he was wearing shorts!!! he tried to act like it wasn't bad but you could tell he was miserable.
