Went riding over the memorial day weekend with my daughter, 2 brothers, and 2 cousins. Trails were wet at our Akely, mn riding area. I took a turn on my brothers cr-250 set up for woods riding. Very fast bike that is so fun it will put a big smile on your face! My young cousin was having trouble on the single track so we thought we would give him a break with some 4-wheeler trails. I was leading and got feeling good, everything flowing and going fast. Small tree laying across the trail should have been no problem, but I must have hit it wrong and the suspension was set too stiff for my weight. Quickly had the front in the air and going off the trail, Big tree,hit it hard. first thought was that I broke my femur because I hit it hard on the bars and it was painful, but the femur was ok, my right wrist hurt bad! Walked off the initial fear and realized the tree could have got me much worse. Still smiling from the fun of going fast. Rode back to camp, had a beer and advil. Taped up my wrist and went for another short ride after sitting out for a couple of hours. Kinda painful.

After being home 2 days i went to the Doc on my older/wiser cousins advice. I had some swelling and bruising on my rt hand/wrist and he said the scaphoid bone in the wrist is a common mc injury. Sure enough, it is broke. Got a brace and will get a cast tomorrow. Now i am trying to learn to be left handed.

Other news, selling the KTM to my brother and keeping the husky for the woods for now. Might get another bike for the street!

Glad you are a just a little banged up (and not a lot) and were able to get out under your own power. Big trees don't give much.

Sorry to hear it. The scaphoid has poor blood supply so it doesn't like to heal well. Take'r easy.

I was in southern Missouri this weekend and one of the ATVer's was drunk, I know that is shocking, and slamed into a tree with "his old lady" on the back. He hit the tree and she flew past it. He is now missing a spleen and she has a cast on her wrist.

Slim take it easy with the wrist and you might want to consider the Flexx Bars. I know a lot of people with wrist injuries love them. Here's the link:

My wife broke her scaphoid last fall at School Creek. Bad news: 12 weeks in a cast and brace. Good news: you can easily learn to write and wipe with your left hand. More good news: she's back riding as I'm sure you will be soon.

Yep, just got the cast and was told 12 weeks. The bike wasn't hurt too bad. The place were the fork attaches to the triple clamps took the brunt of the hit. Brother rode it the rest of the day. I might look into the flex bars. I always thought they looked like a good idea. I will get my daughter to post the awesome video she made on youtube so i can link to it.

I am also looking into putting a pin in the bone but it may be too expensive as it requires surgery. It does get me out of a cast in about a week but still have a brace to wear.

Deer are thick in KS and MO. There is no time that you can be safe. However there are times worse then others. In my option these are the worst times.

Most car deer accidents happen during the rut with bucks are chasing does. Historically Novembers is the worst month but you need to keep an eye out from Oct. 1 to Dec 31 because quail, pheasant, rabbit, etc. hunters are in the woods and fields causing deer to move as well.

Deer are also moving during harvest. They get pushed out of there home grounds in the fall while cutting corn and beans and in late spring/early summer harvesting wheat.

Night time during the summer. Deer have to eat and drink. The hotter the days the less they move during the day. However once the sun goes down and it starts to cool the deer move to water and food and they eat and drink all night long.

A change in the weather. When there has been a long hot spell and then a cooler day or two. Deer can be seen moving at any time during the day or night. The same can be said for a long cold spell and then a warmer day. Deer will be moving 24 hours a day.

Finally, in the evening and morning throughout the year deer move from feeding to bedding.

For me personally, I try not be be on the bike around sunset and sunrise anytime of the year. During the rut, harvest and weather changes I keep a specially keen eye in "deer habitat".
