Preaching to the Choir

Pull up a couch. It's cool in the Lounge. Just remember to be a good neighbor.

Preaching to the Choir

Post by safiri »

This link was in the AMA magazine. Pretty good video about why we ride and the risks that exposes us to.

Personally, riding lets me sense (sights, sounds, smells, temperature, etc) what is around me.

I watched the entire video and looked at the stats pages. Very well put together, but I felt the overall message was kind of anti-motorcycle. I mean, obviously the people they interviewed love riding, but I kind of left the video thinking, "Wow. I don't want the problems and sadness these people have to deal with. Maybe I should sell the bikes." Of course then I washed the sand out of my vag and fired up the vstrom.

The stats actually made me feel a lot safer because a HUGE % of the accidents and fatalities involve alcohol. I don't drink. That's one stat in my favor! The downside is I don't drink--which means I'm sober as I deal with the world's shite!

Speaking of selling the bike...

Troy,

I do drink beer, craft beer, not the light stuff. However, I only do it at the end of the day after I have put the bike away. I tried to drink a couple of beers before a race about 30 years ago. Disaster. Never again. I would add that when I brush a tree at speed and don't crash it is a great day. The opposite results in bruises that resolve. Off road riding makes it!

Troy, I agree the message could be taken as a negative toward motorcycling. However, what has stuck with me is the sport bike riders talking about their inexperienced friend crashing b/c he was screwing around and trying to ride like he had the experience of his friends. That and all of the HD riders telling it like it is: "if you haven't crashed, you will, so wear the gear."
