Truncated GPS routes
Has anyone had the problem of their GPS truncating routes? My Etrex Legend w/ Mapsource Road and Rec software has begun truncating routes. I checked my route waypoint numbers and GPS memory and both are within limits. Truncate = route is cut off. Thanks for any help with this.

Routes have a limit to the number of points in each route, as well as the total number of points in all routes combined.
I believe for my 60CS (not x), the limit per route is 500. Check Garmin.com for your specific GPS.
My work around was to split the route into parts. I ran into this issue when planning my CO-2006 trip. The GPS will flash a short message during upload that the route is truncated, but MapSource will not tell you. Nor will MS allow you to limit the number of trackpoints, OR set it automatically based on the GPS ID already in the program.

Thanks for the info Mike. I have been pulling my hair out for over a week. I'll try breaking my routes into smaller sections and see if it works. I think I was averaging 150 route points when the limit is 125 for a Etrex legend.

To see how many points are in a route:
Open MapSource.
Double click on the route in the left hand navigation bar.
Choose the "Directions" tab in the Route Properties box that opens.
To split a route (there may be a better way ... )
Right click on the route that is too long.
Choose Duplicate Route
Edit both routes so that they each have under your point limit by deleting from the start or the end.

Thanks, the routes worked out fine once I separated into two routes. Hope to limp the Etrex Legend through another year until I can pick up a color unit. Isn't it great having a forum like this to get some help. Kudos to Troy for keeping this group going.
