This is how Tracy taught me. He also suggested stretching the new tire before starting. Put the tire on the ground, step on bottom bead, pull up on upper bead, rotate tire a bit, repeat, repeat, repeat. This makes dropping the rim into the tire a lot easier.

BTW, note the tutorial is using what appears to be a 5 gallon bucket as a stand. Another idea that I have used is an old car tire rim. Put some foam on the lip (if there is a lip ... mag wheels are sometimes rounded/smooth) so you don't scratch your spoked ... Either are lots cheaper than a $100 stand.

Ok my tire changes NEVER go that easy. Is he putting a 19" tire on a 18 rim??? I did learn a couple of things though. Im going to try it this way next time. Maybe a bucket will help.

I agree, this guy makes it look way to easy. Busting the bead on a 17 inch Metzler thats been in place for a year or so is no easy task. Also, changing a tire under race conditions (enduro) is a much more brutal process. It's been my experience that good ol' soapy water, good tire irons and alot of practice can make this process pretty routine...

For my tire changing station I cut 2x4's 16" long and nailed them into a square. Lay it on the floor. It fits the rims good and the wood is soft enough to not ding up your rims. Last set I changed was on a buddy's new rims and they are much easier than older rims with sticky gunk all around the rim. When the tire doesn't want to budge I just let'r set awhile and use a heat gun. I got a nice big brand spankin new tire spoon to make tire changing easier but it DOES NOT. It sucks! My little motion pro irons work much better. And of course soapy water and your beverage of choice.
