I'd be open to staying at the lodge Thursday if the price is right. Get's more riding in on Friday! :D

I started reading thru everything, and went all ADD, so I'll just ask...................

Is everyone showing up on Thursday night, for a full day of riding on Friday and Sat? ........... or is the plan to show up on Friday, unload, and then ride? :?:

That IS the question! I've posted that I plan to come down very early Fri morning, but am open to Thurs night IF we can get the lodge for a 3rd night. More folks need to post up if interested in Thur night and Randy needs to make that call.

Fri arrival really means that folks are kind of on their own for riding because it could be impossible to coordinate a starting time compatible for all. I'm I'm there at 10AM, I'm not waiting until 1PM for others to show up, and if I show up at noon, I don't expect folks who showed up Thur night to wait around for me to start their ride!

...and...
Folks can pay me in cash at the dinner, or avoid that hassle by paying ahead of time using your PayPal account, credit card, or bank account:

James and I would both be able to come down Thursday evening. But, we'd like to keep the lodging for Thursday capped at $50 per person. So, if Randy can negotiate a better rate, we're in for the Lodge. Otherwise, we may find a cheaper alternative for Thursday (but stay FRI/SAT with the group).

Also - which email address do you use for your PayPal account? I'd be happy to pay for the BBQ early.

I know it's not all that obvious, but the large, red text in my post above is actually a link to pay via PayPal (which is also how you pay with credit card or bank account).

On a side note, its a good thing I wasn't planning on riding my 990 on the TARKC ride. As of noon today it looked like this:

Looking at past TAR rides, we've said kick stands up by 9:30 or 10 Friday morning. This has mostly worked except when someone forgets to bring the key for the locked on trailer bikes. My thought has been that the hard part is getting away for the weekend so may as well get in as much riding as possible. Normally, Sunday ends up being less than a full day of riding, so if Friday is a late start, we only get in one full day. My thought is to plan on riding by 10 Friday morning.

Chad, Colleen, and I are going down Thursday. If the lodge is available for a decent price, we will stay there to lessen the load of others.

Thanks for running this show!

Safiri & I will be driving down Fri morning, but unlikely to be ready to roll by 10 am. We can take care of ourselves, so don't wait on us. :)

The long range forecast is very promising! 8)
Phil and I are driving down on Thursday with plans to do a dual sport loop on Friday and Sat. No real "schedule" to speak of, just get up and ease into it. :D

Thursday Night Lodge $40

Post by allkidd »

It took several phone calls but Mulberry Lodge has said we can stay in the lodge Thursday night for $40 per person. ($44.80 with tax). Friday and Saturday night will then be $60 each night, includes tax, for those with a bed, (the first 10), and $50 per night including tax for those on a sofa/floor.

Rather than me trying to collect from everybody, Mulberry has asked everybody to check in and pay individually. To keep it as simple as possible, they will charge $44.80 for anybody staying Thursday night and then $60 for the first 10 to check in for Friday and Saturday. Any above 10 will pay $50 each for Friday and Saturday.

On Thursday, they will be in their office until 6:00. My guess is that most will arrive after that time in which they will be there at 8:30 Friday morning. For any arriving later, they will be in the office Friday until 7:00.

For those who want to follow my son and myself, we will be leaving Mulberry at 10:00 AM Friday morning. Should be a great ride for small bikes with a combination of easy single track, (we've eliminated the more difficult ST) and remote forest roads/trails. We've tried to minimize pavement and the Mill Creek Riding area. We will finish the tracks on Thursday and then post here.

Weather looks fantastic as there is a 0% chance of rain Thursday through Saturday and only 30% chance on Sunday! Temps in 60's and 70's with lows in the 40's.

I think that we've got everything covered but if anybody thinks of anything else let me know. You might let me know if you plan on getting there Thursday evening just so we have a rough headcount.

I'm looking forward to seeing everybody again and meeting the new ones!

While you're in a shopping mood, you might consider ordering up a good skid plate for that 990 if you don't already have one. We ran a bunch of smooth gravel roads down here yesterday and every time I heard a rock hit my skid plate it reminded me to give you a head's up. Even the easy roads down here have some gnarly rocks that could easily put a hole somewhere you don't want it!

I have the Flatland Racing skid plate on mine- very well built (in Emporia, KS, no less!) and quite a bit cheaper than the Black Dog, or CJ Designs ones that are most popular.

I was wondering about that. I don't have one, was planning on waiting before my 2wks in Colorado later this summer but I'll see if I can get one before Wed.

I think I need some advice...

I can get the 990 into the shortbed but I have to turn the front into the corner and drag the butt end to the other. So its on the kickstand (on a board) the entire ride and front wheel turned out/right. It runs corner to corner and tight too with the tailgate shut. I can strap it down from the handle bars to a "near balance" but at that twisted angle the kickstand will need to be down and tied forward to the crash guard. I know the 990 has a "poor" connection on the kickstand to the motor housing. Its not ideal. Bouncing on it probably not a good thing for 5 hours each way. I usually trailer it but was wanting to take the camper. Am I getting paranoid or just now realizing its stupid?

What about put the kickstand up and wedge a 2x4 in there for support?

Definitely DON'T leave it on the kickstand for hauling if you still have the stock kickstand setup! That is, unless you want to risk snapping the engine case that the KTM engineers so brilliantly threaded the kickstand bolt into.

I'm assuming that you cannot leave your tailgate down and pull the bike in straight because you are pulling a trailer that the tailgate would interfere with, so I guess that suggestion wouldn't work.

I loaded a V-Strom 1000 into the bed of my F-150 with the tailgate removed and then put my pop-up camper behind the truck without any problem. That was in a 6-foot bed and the contact patch of the rear tire was just barely inside the bed, but that was good enough to hold it.

I might have a pic somewhere of that setup.
