My hope is I will be making this ride.

Really leaning towards making this ride. I have a brand new Husky in the garage that sadly has < 10 miles on it...sigh... I need to find a way to earn money sans the whole job part!

I am lacking a bag of some kind. Right now I am leaning towards this Givi:

Then securing it with Rock Straps. That seems like it will get me through a few days. I just need to wear the same pants/jacket each day and change under stuff.

Regarding bags to carry your stuff, you could buy an expensive bag or go the cheap route like most of us. At Wal-mart I purchased a cargo net like below:

Then, in case by slight chance it should rain at one of these TAR rides, I wrap my stuff in a thick trash bag then strap it down on my back fender with a cargo net and other bungies. Not very pretty but kind of goes with the Arkansas environment.

I don't have any luggage either...I was looking at the Wolfman Rolie's or the Renegade duffle. However, I think I like the idea of a cheap duffle bag and a trash bag better!!

Walmart has (had?) a set of two waterproof duffels. I think they are sold as "boat bags" in the camping area for $30. I bought mine several years ago. The larger one is huge and can take an entire camping setup and food for several days. It is actually too big for a trip like this. I've used it on my KLR / Vstrom on long trips that don't involve any serious off pavement riding. The smaller one is a perfect size for a weekend. Plenty of room for clothes, tools ect, but still small enough not to get in the way. Walmart also has roll down waterproof bags that would work. They are a bit harder to get stuff in and out of, but are submergable. I use cam buckle tie downs, and everything seems to stay in place.

The Giant Loop stuff is very cool, and if you are willing to make the investment, it will serve you a long time.

Two things.

First, I am very much wanting/planning to be a part of this ride. However, the doc says probably 5 weeks for my fractured wrist to heal....that puts me right up to the edge to make this trip. I hope I heal quickly.

Second, Luggage--there is a good luggage thread going over here.

I'm surprised MoRidin is considering a dry bag duffle after he sent me this luggage discovery last week. I think it looks PERFECT for a dirt bike luggage system. I LOVE my Mojave, and this is the same design.

Ask Scott & James about strapping a couple big dry bags to the rear rack of a DRZ then bouncing down rough forest trails. It did not go so well.

Love my wolfman bags, but good for a 2 day trip.

Anyone else thinking about going that has a big bike? Sorry missed the meeting.

If its the 11 to 13 ride I might be in , yes Troy that is a scary comment!
Never did a pack and ride, since my wife and will down there might be catch up and ride.

I'm planning on taking my 990, but will be ready to re-route if I need to. If and when re-routing is necessary will depend on the terrain and your comfort level riding in it, so I can't speak for anyone else (or myself, for that matter) until we see how the route unfolds. I would say that if your 990 is your only option and you are really wanting to make the ride, go for it!

Ok, I plan to be in Arkansas that weekend, but I will have wife and daughter, first plans are to leave at Fayetteville at 9:30 and my wife/daughter will shop and travel to Russellville as base camp for me, then ride with you guys on Saturday. Then trailer to mulberry for daughters first ride on some trails.
How much pavement pounding ?
Also any neat things for my wife and daughter to do in the Russellville area?
I know I am high maintenance !
Maybe I'll bring some ribs!

By no means change route for me, I have chase vehicle for me. Well when they get done shopping I have one!

That file is a Garmin-proprietary file. (GDB probably stands for Garmin Database.) You can open it natively with Garmin's old Mapsource program (free) or import it into their newer Basecamp program (also free).

Other options include using free resources like GPSbabel to convert the GDB file into any number of formats that you like to work with. For example, you can convert most GDB files to the more generic GPX format, which can be consumed by most GPS-centric programs.

IF the above does not make sense, I'm afraid the explanation goes way beyond what I'm willing to get into in this thread! You either know how to work with Garmin data or you don't. In my experience, the only way most folks get from here to there is to have someone hold their hand until they learn it.
