I started a new job in october and will not have any vaction time built up for awhile I'm planning on heading down to Arkansas for memorial weekend on the KLR for some riding and camping out. leaving on friday night and coming home on monday or possible tuesday depending if I can squeeze a day off. I don't have any particular places that I'm planning to see or camp. Does anyone know of any nice places to camp or rodes to ride either in Missouri or Arkansas?? If anyone wants to join me they are more than welcome to. So far its me and possible my older brother.

Memorial Ride

Go to Moccasin Gap in Arkansas. You can camp or rent a cabin and ride all over H---! It is easy riding. They have a cafe and fuel. It is great. It is located South of Jasper about 25+ miles

Ozark National Forest around Turner Bend (Mulberry River and AR-23) has provided lots of riding over two 4 day trips in the past year. You can get as technical as you want to. Or ride the forest service gravel.

Lots of camping in the NF. Mostly free although you will be roughing it. For a really nice camp spot, for a few dollars per night, try White Rock Mountain. You will be camping on top of a mountain, with beautiful views all around you. There are a couple of cabins up there too.

Ride safe,
Mike

You will no doubt get a lot of advice regarding riding and lodging/camping in the Ozarks as a lot of us go there every year for some of the best riding.

Mr. David Hemphill (david h) leads an excellent Eureka Springs Ride every year. He's ridden lots of areas all over AR and could be an excellent resource for you.

I've made 3 trips now to the area safiri speaks of--fantastic riding! He mentioned the campground on White Rock Mountain. It is the second highest point in AR. Mount Magazine is the highest, and there is camping up there, too, as I understand. On my birthday last year, my brother, KC, and I stayed in the cabins on White Rock at the campground. There are some very good forest roads around this whole area. There are also more ATV trails than you can possibly ride in 3 days!

Several of us did a ride down there this past fall. Here are photos and routes -- the routes are mostly rugged ATV trails, so I'd not want to ride these alone on a KLR, although I WOULD (and DID) ride my KLR on them---I love trails too much to let a big bike keep me from them!

Your trip is a long way off---try not to think about it too much now!

Missouri.

Head to Joplin and take 71 S down to 59. 59 to Nole Missouri and catch 90. Take 90 over to Washburn and 37 hwy. 37 down to 62 and go into Eureka Springs. Out of Eureka take 21, 23 or 103 all off of 62 south and have fun. If you take 23, it goes right through Cass and the area that Troy is talking about. 215 off of 23 right oustide of Cass is great also. If you take 103, go to 68 and down to 43. You will head into the Ponca area and the Buffalo River. Very cool stuff in this area.
Another favorit is Off of 90 in Washburn take 37 up to Cassville and grab 76 down out of Cassville to Stutts. Catch 160 all the way across MO. to West Plains. Keep going east to 21. Head N up 21 to 60. 60 West and catch 21 again to Ellington. 106 out of Ellington to Eminence. 106 and 19 out of Eminence is great. Head over to Alley Spring West of Eminence on 106 if you have never been. Camping at Alley and Camping at Round Spring on 19 out of Eminence. You are along the Current River here and the National Scenic River ways. There is lots of caves and spring in this area to look at. Welch sping is in this area and so is Blue spring and Devils Den. Akers has some neat roads around it also.

If you would like to go down in to AR after 160 all the way across MO. Instead of taking 21 N take 115 S 62 and 115 again to Cave City. Cave city take some 167, 14 and get yourself on 25 to 5 and down to Greers Fairy Lake. I know a girl whos grandmother was born under Greers Fairy Lake.
5 down to 16 and take 16 ALLLLLL the way back west to Fayettville. 16 Crosses all the good roads. 21, 23, 7, etc.

I could tell you more but I think I need a beer after all of that.

NOW DONT GO TELLING ANYONE ABOUT MY GOOD ROADS YOU HEAR ME 8)

Oh and if you havent done it yet. If you make it to White Rock and actually want to leave the area. Its a good day trip down to Magazine Mountain. The Highest peak in AR like Troy said. Well worth the trip and once there, take the Hike to the top from the monstrosicty of a hotel. You cant go to AR and not hit the largest mountain there.

OHHH geeesh the roads just keep coming to me. If your on the Buffalo River area. Remember 43 I told you about. Take 74 out of Ponca. VERYYY COOOL. Take it over to Jasper and catch 74 again out of Jasper to 123 S. 123 has to be one of my favorits in AR. Watch for the sport bikes though and the Cops. 123 has become famous amoung the crotch rocket crowd.

Oh man your going to have to start paying me for this info.

I wanna go, I wanna go, I wanna go! I have never camped off a bike. Cn I pull this off? I don't know. I am not sure how I missed this thread, or forgot about until now. I know I will get in trouble, but that usually doesn't stop me. I think I am thinking out loud, can my wife hear me? Oh crap......................

Camping off the bike is not bad at all if you take the right attitude. Go light like your on a hiking trip. If you wouldnt take it hiking, dont take it biking. Thats for gear at least. Now you always have to have the basics, tire irons tubes, chain link, chain lube, wrenches etc. But dont go over board with it. You have 4 or 5 other guys going on this trip. One set of irons and a couple of tubes is good for the whole group. No since in everone taking 2 tubes and thier own set of irons. One good tool pack can cover everyone. Get where Im going here........
