I have done the first two Stampedes, but this year I don't plan on making it. This is a great place to meet other riders and to see some great country. As Forest Gump said "That's all I have to say about that".

I signed up for this EPIC adventure. Plans are to leave Topeka about 6AM. If anyone is coming from the east along 75/56 highway and want to link up that's cool. Probably run about 60 mph.

I'm filling out my registration form right now! Sounds like a good time. KCHusky, you going to ride out or trailer it? I'm up for either if you want to join forces.
Don't think I'll camp though, so I'll check into lodging.

The registration is full however, they are accepting registrations until September 1.
I am planning on leaving KC around 1:00 on Friday and riding back roads to Council Grove. If anyone is interested in joining me please let me know.
I am looking forward to meeting all of the local riders at the Stampede.

I'd like to but I don't see how I can get the camping gear there
. I'm planning on leaving around the 4:00'ish hour. Look for a Tan F250 crewcab and utility trailer with two ktm's on it. Come on by and say hi...

ajayhawkfan, cool pics looks like you guys found some good roads.
As for a ride report. Got up to see it cloudy and lighting off in the distance. The sun was starting to appear through the clouds. Then the sun went away and it started to rain sometime around 7:30 or 8:00. Hard the riders meeting, which it was stated that no ride while there was lighting. The rain turned to a drizzel and the ride took off about 11:00'ish. We left with the advanced group, aproxamently 15 riders? Within the first three miles we come to a muddy road and looked at what laied ahead of us. David says guys that want to try it? So three of us take off and make it about 1 mile where we come to a section that has gravel all looks good
. We stop and look to see where the rest of the group is? We see David stop a few hundered yards from us and another rider off in a ditch and no other bikes. So, we decide to go and help. David is already cleaning the balled up Play dough off his bike trying to get it to roll. And we can now see that it's Greg off in the ditch and he is trying to get going.
Greg pulls up in the ditch which seemed to give tracktion using the weeds. David is now tring to get his bike up into the hay field so we can get out of there. One of the riders on a SXC trys to head back towards the group to see where they are? His front tire balls up about 25 yards away and down he goes. After getting his bike up and off the road I try to head back towards the group and manage to get 30 yards down the road before my tire balls up and I go down.
So, now we all get to the hay field and head towards the gravel section of road. We stop there and try and remove the play dough from our bikes. David at this time goes to try and find away to the rest of our group. Then the Sxc rider and Lee are ready and head towards our meeting point with David. Me and Greg are still cleaning the play dough out. Finally we are ready to go when David , Lee and SXC show back up. Well; now without the rest of the group we take off for a ride.
A while later we come to a bridge and take a break and Lee starts looking for a way down to the creek. Once found I follow Lee down to the creek for a little scotting. Pretty cool creek one way goes for a while the other has a large section of water with no banks. At this point we return to the group and carry on. We have now riden quite a few miles. And come to a bridge again, Lee is a head of me and when he gets to the end of the bridge his bike kicks out. No big deal he keeps going. We go around a few corners and look back to check on Greg and SXC. SXC is there but no Greg??? Me and SXC head back to find him, well his bike also kicked out but he ended up going down. Breaking his shifter and scrapping his arm up. Greg starts to rig his bike back together using stuff from three of us. Back on the road.
And yes more trouble for Greg a short time later his Clutch cable breaks! At least we were not to far from Alma. We get into Alma, and our group divides David, Greg and my self decide to hit asphalt to get back to camp for the BBQ since we had not had lunch at this point and David was incharge of the slow race. Lee and SXC find there way back to camp later.
Oh, ya it was cold. Never did see 70's that the weather people posted??? It was 45* when the ride started. Next time I'm bring cold weather gear.....

I don't need to give a weather report because kchusky's is right on.
I was a ride leader for 4 others on the easy route. When I saw the tires on the other bikes I had to scrap my plan route and try to stay on well maintained roads as best I could. I took my small group south from Council Grove to see the Z Bar Ranch headquarters and the in front of the Chase County Courthouse and then to Cassoday. That part was all on blacktop. From Cassoday our little group headed east on gravel. This was the first time 3 of the riders had been on gravel after rain. After a short comfort period everyone was click right along. I feel the mushy road under my tires but everyone is looks comfortable.
I turn south to take the group to Teterville Rocks. There are a few puddles at the start but no real problem until we get about half way there. The road turns to mud. Not that deep mud that bogs you down but the thin, slick mud that is more like ice. I hit it and start fishtailing. I luckily make however the next rider is not as lucky. We get him up, I ask if he wanted to head back to the good road but he would have none of that. He wanted to see the spot. We continue on and it happens 2 more time before making it to the rocks and no time did he want to retreat. He was there to ride the flint hills. The view from the rocks was worth it even though the day was overcast. We ride back to to main road and a different rider has a quick dismount. He had his bike back up before anyone could get a camera out.
From Teterville Rocks we ride to Texaco Hill for a few pictures. The road was in good shape up to that point and everyone is doing fine. After Texaco Hill we go NE. As we ride the road gets a little worst as we go. It is gravel but will a lot of slick spots. This slows us down. We head west to the North Branch of the Verdigris River crossing. There is not much water but everyone enjoys it. We ride south and the west picking up Sharpes Creek Road to Bazaar. From Bazaar we take the highway back to camp for the BBQ.
The BBQ was delicious and there was plenty for all. I believe everyone had a wonderful time even if thought the weather sucked.
Our total ride was 150 miles. We left a little after 12:30 and got back at 5:30.
