Florence Kansas GP, May '22.

There has been some discussion about running the Florence GP this year to commemorate the 150th, (I believe) year of the city of Florence. I'm posting this just to get some exposure for it. If you google Florence Grand Prix you can find more videos & data. Back in the '70's it looked to be a spirited Dual Sport ride as it was comprised of gravel roads, RR access roads, (no more of that), farmers pasture land, city streets, etc. If they pull it off and the course is anything similar to what it was back in the day, it sounds like a fun time. If you're interested in helping out, you can attend the planning meeting on Dec 1st.

It must be a private Facebook site. Can't access it. Let us know the outcome, Harv. I raced that GP twice. The last time it was held I was also a participant. It was as you described it. Good for a KLR 650 but I think anything bigger or less capable off road would be a mistake to take out there for that race. There were a bunch of Harley guys that showed up. Some of them were drunks riding through town and trashing the place. I think that was the reason the race was cancelled.

They had an org' meeting last night that appeared to have been pretty productive. The Flint Hills Enduro facebook page has updates. I'm intrigued as to what the course will consist of. I think I'll try and do it. Sounds like a fun thing to be a part of.

And yeah, I read previously that the race got so large, (400+ entrants) that it got too big for the town but it was primarily a bunch of intoxicated H-D riders that killed the event back in the mid to late 70's. Damn H-D riders, just a bunch of ne'er do wells...... ;-)

Here is the updated FB page to monitor the progress of the event. It appears they are going to try and schedule a dual sport ride the Saturday before the race.

Pic below is of Dickie Hill from OKC who finished in the top 10 a couple times. Notice he has only one arm. Also notice the two levers on the left perch.
