Off road riding

Do we have anybody on the board that rides dirt bikes (not dual sports) that lives in close proximity of Topeka? We have an off road area near the river that we ride at often. If you have interest (I know Stu did) in riding there advise and I can post when we go. You can ride it on dual sports but you need to be careful because alot of the Forward Motion race series guys practice there.

You don't want to be putting thru the woods the wrong way and have a freight train of AA riders meet you head on. Maybe we can put together a dual sport ride like we did last year that incorporated this area in the near future.

So, if you live close to Topeka and are interested, advise and I can post when we go.

Harvey, I never or at least hardly ever wash my bikes so does that make the V Strom a dirt bike? Also those AA riders need to watch out for me, I'm rated AAA or at least when I need a tow I call AAA.

Would the klx400s be okay with you dirt bikers? I would enjoy a ride at Oakland, if thats where you're talking.

I have a friend in Oklahoma who uses the screen name Harvey Mushman also, have you met Todd? He did a video of our Eureka Springs ride that was very neat. Go to the oklahoma dual sport sight if you would like to meet him. Ask him to send you a email of his video, you would like it.

How was your ride today? Still seems to be some frost in the ground where its shady, here anyways.

See you soon, and till your KTM friend Terry hello, David

Five of us rode for three hours yesterday, single track in the woods. It was a little greasy early on in spots but once the knobbies tilled it up some it was perfection. Even better was we were the only ones there not counting a few people on quads and they rarely ever go into the woods. We also got out on the river sandbars some.

We counted eight deer, one coyote and an opposum (sp?) we saw. There is a large deer population there and they are pretty tame. A couple weeks back Donnie and I witnessed a sight in the woods we may never see again. We were riding thru a tight slow section and some movement caught my eye to my left. I saw a squirrel run out on a downed tree limb and stop. A split second later a very large hawk of some sort swooped down from nowhere and grabbed the squirrel with it's talons and flew off. It was quite a sight.

It was a perfect day to be in the woods yesterday.

It will be a bit before I can get out since I just had back surgery. I did manage to ride my 250 2-stroke around the neighborhood today so things are better. (This bike is plated. Yes, you can still do that if it is new.) Keep me up on when you go after the holidays. I should be good to go then.
