Sounds interesting, do you offer any routes which avoids the pavement?

The "hook" is that you ride from the center of the 48 states to the center of North America. It's 675 miles. By definition it's a pavement ride unless you are the kind of rider who would "enjoy" a
dusty butt 1000
675 miles of straight, mostly flat pavement in the Midwest. "Interesting" is probably not the adjective I'd choose, but I'm sure folks have fun on the ride.

Agreed! I read about this ride last year and wondered why anyone would torture themselves. To each their own though.

If you're man enough ( or womens enough #metoo) you could turn around up in rugby and ride back that night and make it the 1500 in 24 Iron butt ride!

Last year I told a friend about the Smackdab and he and his father-in-law did it. I backed-out, couldn't imagine 700 miles on my KLR. They said it was great and quite do-able on my bike.
I'm making plans now to go this year. Plans are still iffy but from Rugby, ND I hope to go to Belle Fourche, SD for the other "center" and on down to Sturgis, needles hiway, and Iron mtn. rd. then on home. (Derby,KS) They're going again too, not sure of their plans but to go into Canada to the garden. (about 40 miles)
Better plans as time nears!
Take care, RD

P.S. You're on your own for dirt tracks, but I'm guessing you won't make it in Saturdays daylight! haha--RD

I thought of doing this, but riding my Spyder instead of the 690 as it isn't exactly the best bike for covering alot of asphalt. The main reason to do this is because I was stationed at Minot AFB ND from 1985-88 and would like to see what has changed in the last 30 years.

Sounds like you have good motivation for the journey, and a Spyder would be a real blast!

FYI, I got home Wed. from this trip. Did the Black Hills on way home like posted above. Very nice trip, quite doable on a KLR (most anything that'll do the speed limit). Had a great time doing 2325 miles. New back tire is on order!haha
Did anyone else ride the Smackdab Run? If so, what's your story?
Take care, RD
