Pee Wee Adventures

We’re developing a small contingency of Dads & PeeWees here in Olathe/OP area that love to ride. We'd love to connect with others out there with little ones - your place or ours (or the one you know about) to expand our riding opportunities and to get the little ones emersed in the sport and develop it as a life-long activity for them.

My 2ish acre yard in-town isn’t much but has served as an excellent intro grounds for these little future Dungey’s. We have a good selection of bikes from small electrics to the 50s and soon to be 80s so no worry if you’re just trying to feel things out or haven’t made the plunge yet. Eventually we’ll be cool enough to have our own 40 & a mule but until then, we ride where we can.

Once the little ones gradieate from my yard, we've moved on to a nearby grassy meadow within riding distance – its about 50ish acres and flat and open enough for the little ones to take it to the next level. Were also working on a small woods loop to give the rascals an intro to that style as well. Its worked out great but we’ll likely be evicted at some point so we’re always looking for new venues.

Another option if you’re looking for a "racing" outlet for the little ones (or yourself) or just want to be amongst some generally awesome people that are passionate about the same things as us, Forward Motion (http://www.2012.fmhsc.com) (not sure why they still have 2012 in their site address) is a good outlet for that. There's a ride coming up next weekend in Eagle Ranch, MO at a ranch typically used for horse back riding. I haven't done the ride before, but apparently this is the one time a year they turn it over to the moto ponies. If the weather isn't too brutal, my 6 yr old plans to do the PeeWees at this first event for the season.

My 6 yr old loves these rides (and hopefully soon enough my two other little guys will too) – it’s like mini-moto bumper cars where the dads keep the little tykes on course and the kids get the thrill of competing (its still ok to compete and try to win isn’t it? - no, not everyone gets a trophy). We do the toy-hauler/night before boogie sometimes so if you’re looking for a rendezvous/ride share op, let me know – more the merrier.

I firmly believe (and I think anyone who rides can attest) that motorcycling – particularly dirt bikes – is a great metaphor for life. Learning a skill, overcoming fears, striving to be better, being able to spend time in your own head, picking yourself up when you flail, etc etc. I see this is a great way to get these little guys (& gals) out from behind the computer, ipads, Xbox etc and into a truly awesome outdoor adventure. Look forward to hooking up with some of the other dads with PeeWees (and just the dads sometimes too when I obtain proper clearance).

See ya soon.

We rode at birdmans right? Good post. I like it! Just yesterday I got the kids out on their "new" bikes. Our son rode his new to him CRF70 and our daughter rode the gasser for her first time. They both had a great time and did a good job. She about wiped out a couple time going through snow and muddy areas but she kept it up. :D
I don't plan to do any organized "racing" with them. I just want to have the occasional fun family trail riding experience. Hopefully we can ride again another day.

This sounds great. I have two boys ages 5 and 8 who are just getting into the sport. Currently they have a ttr 50 but will be looking for a second soon. We are north of the river but ok with a little drive. They would love to ride with other kids. If the weather is decent myself or the boys will likely be playing. Let me know how to stay in touch.

Dry out? I'm hoping things thaw out by August.

Had a good group yesterday for an impromptu ride, I think we all had fun! The kiddos had a lot of fun on the "8" maybe too much at times

Well I wasn't planning on getting a bigger bike but... I saw one posted for sale and he was willing to deliver it to me so I couldn't say no. He said he was the original owner and his son didn't put more than 5 hours on it. So we had the kids try out their "new" bikes last evening. Our daughter rode the 70 with no issues and she loved it. Our boy had to focus on working the clutch and I had to worry about him popping the clutch while I was walking in front of him. :D
He did great. He never did pop the clutch, nor did he drop it. He might be a little too small for it, but he'll be ready for it this year.

Wow -- that CRF 100 looks really clean. You got lucky! Kids look great on their bikes. It's only a tiny bit tall for your son, but he's getting talented on the bike fast, and I'm sure he'll grow another inch or 2 before the year is over. Well done!

Actually its a CRF80. It's almost 3 inches taller than the CRF70. Both of them have plenty of power for any trail riding we will do. I'm already thinking about installing CRF100 suspension when he outgrows the 80 (even though that won't be for quite some time). :D

Our daughter was begging me to go ride yesterday. :D So far she loves riding. My wife and I were surprised (and laughing) by how fast she was riding. She almost went into the cluster of trees at one point.
He's doing OK on the clutch. Makes me laugh when he stands up and he's about 3" off the seat.

This weekend my son and I and a friend and his son went back to the MX track. Well I went back, but it was their 1st time. I wish my daughter could have went too, but she was at our grandparents house. Anywho, we rode for about 3 hours and got in one heck of a good workout. Afterwards, we stopped at the cool convenience store and got some food and a soda. My boy, like most, doesn't really express his feelings much, but I could tell he loved the day!
