Troy,
I don't think I will be down there on Sunday to say Hi. Too hot for my Michigan bones.
Have great fun and be safe! You too Kyle.
Cheers,
MrHix

I'm really looking forward to the ride and meeting the other riders!
Any update on what time I should arrive Saturday morning? We will be heading down to Salem sometime tomorrow afternoon.

Kickstands up 8am Sat.
Not a lot of food options in the area. Sat night we'll most likely eat at Koy's in Bunker to support the locals. Burger ain't too bad. For lunch on the trail Sat, we'll make peanut butter & honey bagels along with baby carrots, trail mix. Kyle is bringing enough of this lunch making supply to cover the few of us. Breakfast? On your own--bring something to eat before jumping on the bike. Link is up at 5 am every morning and makes coffee. Don't expect a carmel machiatto with whip.

One more logistical type question...I don't normally carry cash and it occurred to me that link may not want a check and most likely doesn't take credit cards. Not a huge deal if I should hit an atm on the way out, but I won't if I don't need to.
I am bringing out my KDX and drz and a ton of tools and extra stuff. No one was in my truck and I get the same mileage even if I bring the kitchen sink. If anyone realizes they forgot anything, text me and I'll be happy to grab it on my way out tonight.
I am assuming there are enough bunks in the cabin but if not I have a really nice backpacking air mattress and will volunteer for the floor of the cabin.

Sorry guys - but I am bailing on you!
It is more than just the heat - but that does play a major part. If I were coming for a full weekend, I would not worry about the temp much as a few half days make it worth the trip. However, I need to spend a nice weekend with the family and my daughter is begging me to teach her to wakeboard...so off to the Lake for us.
Have a great weekend - tell Link hey howdy and DRINK WATER!
For those that are close to the area, a GREAT ride is happening in October hosted by the same guys that put on the Show Me 200. On October 6th, the MTRA hosts the 6th annual Miner Days Poker Run.
http://www.ridemtra.com/events_calendar.htm
The MTRA rides are not big bike friendly - heck they aren't even small bike friendly! Expect plenty of hand-cut single track.
Peace-
Sean

That was a fantastic couple of riding days. Paved roads, gravel roads, dirt roads, double track, single track, no track (Link track), water crossings, logs, hills...we did it all!! Anyone who hasn't made it down to Link's needs to take a trip. I will certainly be going back.
Kyle, Jim, Nick and Troy...It was good to meet you all and I appreciate you letting me ride and hang out. Hopefully we can do it again soon. I'm up for quick day trips if anyone is ever interested...
Mike

My muscles are sore and my body is riddled with chiggers so it must have been a great ride! Always a good time down at Link's.

Yeah I had a great time. Great trails and group of guys. I just feel bad that Troy got hurt trying to keep up with me.

Link's was a lot of fun. Hopefully next time my bike won't run out of gas and I'll be better prepared for the heat. It was fun, but it was steamy out there.
Thanks for towing me back, Troy. That will be a story I retell for a while. Nothing like a little humiliation to put smiles on all your friend's faces.
It was nice meeting/seeing everyone. I look forward to riding with everyone again soon!

Another GREAT ride with Link! We had 6 riders following Link on Sat and 4 on Sun. I led us for a 20 mile loop Fri evening. About 150 miles total for the 3 days with a lot of narrow singletrack. Geno, if you see this, THANKS for riding with us!
I had new mesh pants with no pockets, so my camera was not accessible, and I had not planned for that. So no pics or vids from me this time.
Yes, I believe I broke a bone in my right wrist. The x-ray tomorrow morning will settle that. I had a slow speed unexpected stop going into a dry creek bed and the bike went down. I was left standing over the bike UNHURT. Then I stepped over the bike to position myself to pick it up.....tripped, and landed hard on my right hand. DOH! So I'm telling people I got injured in a hiking accident when I tripped over a motorcycle on the trail.
My favorite part of towing Nick was passing Jim on the highway while towing. We ran about 45 MPH down the highway. Not near as fast as Bill Dragoo towed me at Link's! Bill had me going 55 MPH and we passed a car!
Towing is difficult and being towed is much harder. Nick said he'd never been towed, but he did a great job! We had to tow around 10 miles or so including many miles of forest road including a couple of easy creek crossings. We never stopped and never had to reconnect the rope.
Nick, on probably 50% of my Link rides, somebody has been towed back or hauled back. It's rough riding and bikes break. No humiliation in that at all. I think Nick said it was his first time riding singletrack, but it did not show. I was riding sweep behind him, and he did great. I remember the death grip I had my first few times out on singletrack! It wears you out fast!

well played... I thought you would go with a "lost a fight with a cat" joke but this is more relevant.

Well did you break your wrist or not???? It is almost as good as mine when I broke three ribs tripping over a hose at the gas station with our bikes in the back of your truck.
Either way I hope you heal up quickly.

Doc says it's barely a hairline fracture. Gave me a nice brace (no cast) and said probably 5 weeks to heal. Follow-up in 3 weeks.

Just wait 3 weeks, take a lot of aspirin, and go in saying "I'm fine." You will be cleared to ride! I did this when I broke 3 bones in my foot and wanted to go back to flying.
Get well soon!

Sounds like I missed a good one! Heat, running out of gas in the middle of the forest, towing bikes, and broken bones- sorry I missed it!
