Sep 28-30th Arkansas Ozarks Trail Ride
Re: Sep 28-30th Arkansas Ozarks Trail Ride
KC (coming from Wichita), Daryl, & I (coming from Kansas City) plan to arrive by 9AM Fri morning. Hopefully we'll get there in time to join a group taking off for the day's ride. If not, the 3 muskateers will hit the trails. Don't wait around for us longer than you want to.
We plan to start home sometime Sunday afternoon.
I have edited the first post to include the main details.

You guys are killing me! I just found out about this thread, and boy do I wish I could come! It's over 10 hours for me to get down there, plus there is this barn project I want to put some metal on next weekend http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthre ... ht=pasture. Last but not least there is obviously work, it kind of gets in the way of those projects. You guys have fun, I'll be looking at the pictures next monday!

riding AR Sept 28-30, and eating....
What do you guys want to do for the food situation?
every man for himself?
In previous posts, I have used "AK" as the state abbrivation for Arkansas, which is incorrect (AR).
I sure hope no on winds up in Alaska, though it would be a wonderful ride.
I recently purchased new gear (pants, jersey) from a company called "Klim". Really nice stuff, with kevlar stitching and waterproof zippers.
http://www.klim.com.
Actually, I have an extra set of their pants I'm bringing down to AR. They don't fit me, and they are almost brand new. They are the "moab" pant. I would like to get $50 for them, cost $90. They seem to size things a little small, and if you ever order something from them, get the next size larger.
I'm really excited about this ride, and am hoping I don't snap a brake lever, or get hit by some asian gang member racing his friends on crotch rockets.
p.s.
I never recovered anything for damages. He had no insurance, drivers liscense, nothing....

Luc! Last time we chatted, you were looking for a bike and swamped with work and settling in. Now I see you have 2 bikes, a great place, and you are building a barn! Are you SURE you can't come down next weekend?! 10 hour drive is a bit much....darn it! GREAT to hear from you.gagnaou wrote:You guys are killing me! If we do the every man for himself, what will probably happen is that we'll have more crap than will fit in the fridge, 10 coolers laying around, and more food than we can possibly eat. But I am open to this method...and it is what will happen if we don't have at least a few people vote one way or another.electrician wrote:What do you guys want to do for the food situation?

David H has suggested (and even offered to pick the items up) that we do what Sean did last time---stop at Sams/Costco and pick up a few frozen entrees. We had some chicken enchiladas and a lasagna or something last time. Some big bags of chips, salsas, etc. Breakfast was a couple of cereal choices and toast.
We are only talking about 3 nights for some and 2 for others. I vote we pick up two evening meals capable of feeding about 12 people. This way we don't have too much--we can always go hit the restaurants about 20 miles away if needed/wanted. Most likely, we'll have leftovers to get us through an extra day if desired.
I will volunteer to pick up one evening's meal stuff. I will not arrive until Fri morning, so don't count on me for Thursday evening meal.
For lunch on the trail, we try to make a cafe stop, but they are few and far between and you don't always know if you'll make it to your planned stop. So packing at least some trail bars or snacks is highly recommended. The trick Safiri taught me is to make peanut butter and honey sandwiches out of bagels. Peanut butter and honey don't need to be refrigerated and the bagel is strong enough to not get soggy or crushed in your tail bag. Works very well...unless of course you are allergic to peanuts!
I will be bringing whole-wheat bagels and supplies for my lunches. I'll have some to share, but not enough for everybody. KC & Daryl, I got your backs.
David O, I'm interested in the pants, so I'll check them out when I see you.

Re: Sep 28-30th Arkansas Ozarks Trail Ride
tuna in the foil pack works well too. You can set the foil tuna pack on your muffler, unwrap a peice of cheese, 2 slices of bread, and voila', you have a "tuna melt".
I like the food method from troy. I like the stoffers lasagna, and the roast beef too.
Also, Klim's web site is http://www.klimusa.com, not klim.com

Re: Sep 28-30th Arkansas Ozarks Trail Ride
Our group of 4 and maybe a fifth person will get the following
1. For Thur. garlic bread , lettuce and dressing there might only be 6 of us there thur at dinner time, 7 tops, so maybe we could do with 1 stouffers. I guess it depends on the size of the stouffers. We will also get a pack of brats and buns in case anyone is starving.
2. Friday we will pick up all needed to have the dinner.
3. Sat. lettuce and dressing.
4. Breakfast, we will get 3 boxes cereal and a gallon of milk
5. Misc. we will get some stuff for trail mix and snack food.
Everyone please keep receipts so we can square up the expenses so no one has to shoulder more than their share.

I'll help out with the breakfast items....more cereal, another gallon of milk, some juice. Since we're coming in early Thursday w/ big D., we can coordinate anything else we think of along the way. Maybe pick up some fruit to munch on.

Also don't forget to buy drinking water! The water at Byrds might be safe to drink but I can't tolerate it and I can't remember anyone else taking a big ol drink. I might bring along some "adult beverages" to....KC wrote:troy wrote:Thanks, MesaLC4.

The big dual sport routes were done by Larry M and I and are ready to ride. Our routes are just to be used as a template, so if you would happen to see something you can't resist, go for it! Our routes are complete and will give you a nice ride if you wish to follow them to the end, but again we are all exploring so do what ever seems right. Give me your e mail address and I will send them to you if you desire.
Weather looks almost too good to be true. 10 percent chance of rain, lows mid 60s, highs low 80s.
