Anyone up for School creek on Sunday 4/3?

Hey guys, I know some will be in Arkansas riding but I may be back in the area this weekend and if anyone was going riding at school creek I'd bring my bike along and go on Sunday. We still have snow on the ground here and it's really wet where there isn't snow so there hasn't been any riding for me yet this year. I think you will guys will have 80's this Sunday. I might die of heat stroke. Hasn't been 60 yet here.

Miss you guys.
Mike

The races are always held on the east ?? (right side of parking lot as you drive in)side. The other side is always left open for people to ride on.

See you on the starting line Stu? Upper 70's, bring the sunscreen......

All,

I and some others were planning to ride School Creek tomorrow (Sat) because weather forecast looked to be yucky on Sunday. However, now the Sunday forecast looks downright hot and sunny.

So question for you racers....will the School Creek riding area be open for recreational use both Sat and Sun? Would you recommend Sat to avoid race crowd?

Slimtrader, any chance you can ride Sat?

Safiri, can you ride Sun? I know you had a Sat conflict.

It'll be open both days but you can't ride on the E side Sunday. I would think Sat would be a good day because more than likely the course will be marked off. Probably be alot of kids practicing though too.

Sat would be a good day to ride but I suggest staying on the west side. In the past, the Race promoters haven't allowed anyone riding on any track during setup, (for safety purposes) as they have various groups out working on putting up arrows and ribbon. You may see a few of the course workers pre-riding it late in the day after setup but that's about it. Out of courtesy, (and the fact you might get told politely, I hope, to leave), I'd stay on the west side Sat or Sun. There is plenty of room on the west side for a full day of fun.
Ride safe.

Thanks, guys! So here is where I'm at....sounds like Sat or Sun, I can expect a few more riders than normal. Sat or Sun, I should stay off the East side.

Sun lets me see Slimtrader and also allows Safiri to go--maybe others. It also lets me see you guys race maybe and see the race experience. So Sun sounds better to me. Hope to see you guys out there!

Any other wisdom you want to pass along will be appreciated.

One thing I forgot is all monies from the racers must be collected outside the riding area on the gravel road right before the steel entry gate. This has always been a Corps of Engineers policy. So, if you come Sunday, even if you have no intention of coming over to the race side to watch any of it, you may be required to pay the $5.00 gate fee to get in to the general riding area. Just an FYI.

Well I'm kinda flying by the seat of my pants here. Just found out I will be down there and I'm trying to round up my riding gear. Some of it is at the family farm (3.5hrs away) so I will just grab some old stuff I've got here and borrow my daughters helmet (kinda tight). But it may be fun to ride and watch the race as well. I have yet to take out my new 08 Husky te-310 so I'm looking forward to it. I don't know for sure when I'll arrive. Kinda depends if I stay out drinking with old friends.

I'll keep Troy posted as I have his number and he mine.

and yes, I'll only be able to ride Sunday because I'll be driving all day Sat.

Anything we (me, Troy, etc.) can bring that you are missing? I have spare riding pants and jersey ... let us know.

OK, the only thing I'm missing is a chest protector. If you happen to have an extra one, great, if not, it's not a big deal to me.

Thanks guys,
I'll try to call troy while I'm driving tomorrow or you can call me when it's best for you.

Later,
Mike

Slimtrader; The chest protector is Troy's training bra model.....before his augmentation. Oh wait, I'm thinking of Helen of Troy, must be a relative.

Awesome day yesterday. Four of us enjoyed the surprisingly empty half of the area that wasn't closed for the race. Quite a few qauds in the parking lot ... only a few out on the trail. No big crashes, except with tree branches to the head and torso. Very dry, awesome traction (even with my very used rear tire), sunny, warm

So warm that Mike J showed us all how to cool off ... sit on the beach, back toward the water, and lay down. WOW!, that water felt great.

Wore myself out on the trails! Great day!

Stu & Terry (others?), how was the racing? We tried to spectate a little, but the trails kept calling us back to the West side.

I had a good time yesterday. I got tangled up with a bunch of knuckleheads on a hill climb on the first lap and everyone in the 10's passsed me. Then the 9's passed me, then the 11's passed me. Now not only am I last in class, I have two other classes in front of me, and I'm a little pissed off. My first lap was 23:09. I put the big KaTooM in overdrive and caught and passed a bunch of 11's, then a bunch of 9's, then I finally caught up with the 10's and got around three of them to wind up 4th in class, just off the podium. My last three laps averaged at 18:01. They ran a split race format yesterday and they put the checkered out for everyone at an hour and a half, (meaning there was a 1/2 hour left in a normal non-split race format race). I might have had a chance to catch the guy in front of me if they'd run a full 2 hours. I really enjoy Milford. Stu, hope you had a good race and everyone else that Dual Sported on the other side had a good time too.

Back home after lots of driving. Had a great time riding. Thanks for meeting me Mike, Mike, and Troy. Wish I could have talked to Terry for a little bit. I seemed to have picked up a little poison ivy while I was there. Something to bring home! Must have been some vines on the trails or maybe I got it when I rolled around on the ground on that big downhill.

Glad you made it home safe! Only 26 hours of driving for 4 hours of riding! Sounds like a good trade-off to me!

Vines? How about the 3" thick pine branches smashing your face around every corner! How do people ride out there without a helmet? Legally you are supposed to wear one, but you see people out there without a helmet.

GOOD TIME!

Harv,

You passed me when I stopped to pick a 250 Yamaha off of a trapped 14 year old. He couldn't get it off of himself. I had a great day riding but the last lap was wearing on this old guy. Nevertheless I would not mind riding the race course again this coming weekend. I think I can find all of it. That one nasty, rock infested climb was a challenge that I liked. That stopped a lot of folks. Harv, on the first lap when it was all balled up with crashed bikes I just headed up through the weeds next to the climb. Passed a lot of the slower riders there.
