That is someplace I would love to dirt bikes and mountain bikes someday, but probably should get a little more experience first for the dirt bike part.
How long does it take to drive out there, when you don't encounter any blizzards?

Re: Moab Ride Slideshow
Approximately 14-15 hours from KC. Denver is about midway. MapQuest says 960 miles and 14 hours. I have done the drive straight-through from KC three times in March and have been lucky to not hit snow any one of those.
Things to keep in mind if you go:
- there are no services past Fruita, CO until you get to the second Moab exit. I know that my 4Runner will go 20 miles past when the mileage indicator says it will be empty. Ask BGG how I know this. Best part was that fill up was Hayden's! For BGG and I , for Hayden
- The Moab marathon uses highway 128 (first Moab exit, shortest route, not for large vehicles or long trailers) and they close the highway that morning. Check dates. BGG, Hayden, and I almost lost our first day of riding to this on my second trip.
- The Easter Jeep Safari is Holy Week: the week between Palm Sunday weekend and Easter. Unless you want to spend lots of time waiting on 4WD vehicles and want Moab packed, avoid that week and either weekeend on the ends. The first weekend isn't so bad until Saturday from my one experience with it.
- Moab is damn (DAMN) hot in the summer. I am not sure you can carry enough water in those temps to be safe. March ... well the nights are cold (20s - 40s) and the days are temperate (60s - 80s). April is probably perfect. May is getting hot. I go in March because that is when I have a week of vacation (spring break). Remember that Moab is high desert: dry and sunny.
- The loop hike in Arches NP that starts up near the campground is worth a day if you want a break from mc'ing or mtb'ing.

Avoid The big car show in April also. It was pure craziness on that weekend. Late march is best for sure. Cool temps for riding and population is down. We had rain, snow, mud, this April. Be prepared for all types of weather and conditions.
