Re: 4th Annual Winter Bald Eagle Ride, January 18-21, 2013
I borrowed Safiri's Hippo Hands. I'm curious to see if the combination of Hippo Hands + heated grips + normal gloves will keep my hands warm in 30 degree highway riding. I'll have my heated gloves along of course, but I'm going to test riding without them using the Hippo Hands. I tried to buy a pai...

Re: Dakar
Who would have thought it would be the transition phases where they have had 3 people get killed.
I might have to cross 'race in The Dakar' off my bucket list.

Re: Dakar
I really wish something as big as the Dakar got more coverage especially when I have to sit through 3873 hours of figure skating coverage every 4 years. No offense to any figure skaters, but, not exactly my cup of tea for entertainment. Try being stuck in a house with a former figure skater turned ...

Re: 4th Annual Winter Bald Eagle Ride, January 18-21, 2013
Friday January, 18th. Start around 12:00, noon. Where we meet will be determined. The plan is to head east to the Mississippi River, upriver of STL. This is subject to change depending on road conditions. I know everything is weather dependent and the apogee of said route is up in the air. But, if ...

Re: Dakar
Watched the first 10 minutes or so, which focused on motorbikes. Seems a large portion of the coverage was focused on the beginning of the rally, who was in, who was out, etc. Not a lot of actual bike footage in the first day's highlights. Hopefully the footage gets a bitter better and more focused ...

Re: Dakar
Hah, I got a new calendar for work, and noticed that the Dakar started on Saturday and spent a few minutes looking for coverage. Couldn't really find anything worthwhile, but, I am downloading a video from a certain site located in a rustic Switzerland bay that has the Eurosport Highlights from Days...

Re: 4th Annual Winter Bald Eagle Ride, January 18-21, 2013
If you have been good this year, you could possibly ask for heating gear for Christmas. I was a very good boy. New heated gloves, heated jacket and riding suit from the fine folks at Olympia. Friday January, 18th. Start around 12:00, noon. Where we meet will be determined. The plan is to head east ...

Re: 4th Annual Winter Bald Eagle Ride, January 18-21, 2013
As long as the roads are good between here (Tulsa and KC area), I'll be in as well. I may have to tuck out early to get home Sunday afternoon, but, yeah, no snow or ice and count me in.

Re: Winter's Here Whiner's Thread
Now that cold and possibly a lot of rain are coming in I invite you to air your favorite beef, whine, whimper, nasal snarkiness or whatever else will keep you from going crazy until better riding weather returns. I'll start with the observation that it could be worse. Car & Driver reports that a re...

Re: Computer Help
 I'm surprised you guys hadn't heard, but there is an entire industry that has sprung up to solve these problems. They manufacture complete computer systems ready to go. No longer do you have to struggle with mismatched or broken components. The way it works is you give them money and they g...

Re: Computer Help
Foster, I had this same issue with an ASUS MB (three of them, in fact, all purchased from NewEgg) where the pins underneath the CPU were bent upon arrival. Did your barebones kit come pre-assembled? Was the CPU already seated? My issue had nothing to do with compatibility, just poor quality control ...

Re: GS tire?
The last tires I had on my Vstrom 650 before selling it were Shinko 705 series tires. These are more of a "dualsport" tire but lean a bit more aggressive than some. I thought they were great tires and a great value. The mechanic who balanced my tire after getting my rim fixed, stated that the "Shin...

Re: Great weather this weekend
Scottie, you should take Erik over into AR for a day trip. Go eat at the Oark Cafe or something--run him down Hwy 23 and across 215 to Oark, AR. He'll be blown away. In fact, here is a sub 400 mile loop from Owasso to Oark to Natural Dam and back to Owasso. The highlights of this route are Hwy 23 (...

Re: Great weather this weekend
The forecast for this weekend (Dec 1 & 2) looks great for riding! Lows around 50 and highs in the 60's. Some sunshine and low chance for rain. I know I'll lean towards trails rather than roads. Hmmm....options... Wonder if my brother would go riding with me at School Creek this Sat or Sun? First we...

Anyone have any opinions +/- on said item?
Now that I have fancy heated gear on its way, I thought it would be prudent to find a riding suit, specifically a one-piece (on the advice of our own TroyWolf) textile, to go along with the new bit of kit as I ride willy-nilly OverTheRiverAndThroughTheWoods this winter. After some rooting around the...

You are correct sir, I got a chance to talk to my brother last night and it was indeed a 125 made into a 175.
My GoogleFu is lacking this week. It's a fun little bike to ride.

Re: Vintage Dual Sport Pics
Since everyone is posting pics, here is my brother's 1978 DT175 (125?, All I know is, is what it is labeled on the side, it is not what it is) and my wee. These pics were taken just outside of Cheney Lake near Wichita, KS. The pictures towards the end, where my brother is looking a bit forlorn, is j...

I've been meaning to get down to Ouachita for, oh, the last few months - other things just kept getting in the way.
Thanks for reminding what I'm missing by working instead of riding!

Re: October ride
Trickiest part of packing I have not figured out yet is shoes for the evening. I don't have footwear that packs down really small (like minimal flip-flops). Tennis shoes take a lot of space to store on a dirtbike! I planned to wear my full motocross boots for the protection they provide in the gnar...
