Re: Ozark Fall Colors Tour Next Weekend Last Minute Invite

A friend of mine from Iowa drove 14 hours round trip for 3.5 hours of riding! Doh! He got down there, started a ride, and soon after ended up with oil squirting out from his engine on every revolution of the piston on his DR650. Apparently it's a gasket that is relatively common to start leaking on ...

Triple Dam Ride - SE KS!

I just returned home from a 2 day ride routed by my brother, KC. KC does a lot of work in the SE corner of KS and was excited about the dualsport potential of the area, so he built 2 days worth of routes. It turned out FANTASTIC. Really some great riding down there. We based the ride from Fall River...

Road Less Traveled Trailer

The official trailer is finally completed. They got Ricky Johnson to narrate. Instead of pushing to make a movie, the boys have decided to try to make the show into a TV mini-series (like Long Way Around).

Re: Snow!!

Motoracer13,
I'm in as long as you blaze the trail through the 2 foot snow drift like you did last time! I'm quite sure if I'd led that charge, my DR350 would have had to be carried out of the snow. You are an animal.

Sure. Rub it in. My DR350 is all I need! ......at least that's what I keep telling myself until I can afford a street machine.

Re: Looking for a rugged camera

I will be able to walk away from this discussion with at least one treasure -- a camera that does not have an extracting lens. Because actually, both my cameras are dead (I believe) due to mechanical issues with the lens motor. One because of dust, and the other because of the beating. I'm not creat...

Yes! These events are free, fun, and family-friendly. Take the family, a water bottle, good walking shoes, and enjoy! :D

That was cool when that guy let us play on his trials bike!

Re: Looking for a rugged camera

Dust? Put your new Canon in a zip lock bag and stick it in your riding jacket pocket and ride! Again, I have to find the balance--that compromise. I could keep the camera perfectly safe by keeping it in a bank vault, but then I'd never take any photos. To a lesser degree, having to remove the camer...

Re: Looking for a rugged camera

Troy, Your concerns are very valid. However, there are some things you need to understand to make an informed decision as a consumer regarding digital cameras.... Agree. 1) SLR cameras have instant on and instant focus so you get that cute kid shot. Digicams have about 1/2 second delay before you c...

Re: Looking for a rugged camera

The ability to zoom / crop for a 4x6, and keep photo quality is a definite plus. Thus the "need" for more MP. That said, I haven't been limited by the 6 MP of my w10. I understand this. I also understand that most people simply refuse to get close to their subject. So they end up with photos where ...

Re: Looking for a rugged camera

My first digital camera, and the first one I finally destroyed on the bike, was a Kodak DX4330. This was a basic 3.1 Mp camera. http://www.dcresource.com/reviews/kodak/dx4330-review/camera-front-angled.jpg The camera was VERY simple to use and almost every shot was sharp with excellent color and lig...

Re: Looking for a rugged camera

Glad to hear all the feedback. Stu, you are a pro yourself, so I appreciate your advice, but I'm definitely not going to spend more than $400 on a camera to carry on my motorcycle over the hill and through the woods and through the creek, etc.! I'd rather break a $200 camera every year than buy one ...

Re: Syracuse sand dunes, anyone ridden there?

It does look like fun! The open sand areas would not be so fun on a motorcycle unless you are really good and really love to be punished. (I am neither.) The entire park is to be 1300 acres and from the photos appears to have a lot of open trails. It is all just wide open desert-like riding, which f...

Nov 1 - 4, 2007: Carving the Ouachitas III

This ride is apparently a sport bike and dualsport ride with 700 miles of trails available to the dualsporter. The ride is in Arkansas in the area of the Wolf Pen Gap trail system in the Ouachita National Forest which extends into Oklahoma. http://www.cmausa.org/!UserFiles/2007_FL_Rally.pdf http://w...

Re: Sep 28-30th Arkansas Ozarks Trail Ride

So I've been reading a lot of Forest Service info. In 2005, they revised the Ozark-St. Francis forest plan. Part of this plan affects Off-Road vehicle use. Basically, the plan states what I'd think was already law--that vehicles must stay on officially indicated roads and trails. Phase 1 of this pla...
