My prayers are with "xr400" and his family.
Like Mike, I offer a bed if you need a place to stay in the KC metro, Joe.

Re: Sweltering August Ride
I thought you guys were my friends. What gave you that impression? 8) I don't know. I guess it was the way your tongue felt in my ear. It seemed like you really meant it. I'll probably be deleting this later. Don't bother quoting it because I'm the site admin--I can delete your posts, too. :t...

Re: Sweltering August Ride
I am sure others have been screwed having a bike not start in the middle of nowhere. That would ruin a trip that took months to plan. Wow. Considering what that bike is designed for--epic journeys to BFE--yeah, owners should be directly alerted. Glad yours happened where it did and is getting fixed...

Re: Sun 8/3 KC to Cassoday
Sounds like a nice mix of bikes and a good time. Did you take any pictures? I took a couple shots while in Cassoday, but nothing really worthy of posting. It was an eclectic mix of machines for sure, but we really got along well. The Harley rider & I did notice that once the Buell peeled away to he...

Re: Sun 8/3 KC to Cassoday
OK, so today I rode without a helmet for the first time in years. I grew up riding for years and years and never owned a helmet. Much like my cars didn't even have seat belts. Today, I was stuck on the highway in a traffic jam for about 30 minutes in 101 degree sun plus the radiant heat off the pave...

Re: Sweltering August Ride
Btw, your starting issue--that's why I don't buy a new BMW GS. All those pesky issues. Or could it be the $20K?! I'm jealous of your machine--starting or not.

Re: Sun 8/3 KC to Cassoday
Four riders and what a strange mix of machines! We had a Suzuki 650 V-Strom (adventure bike), a Suzuki DR650 (dualsport), a Buell Firebolt (sport), and a big Harley! It was downright cool in the morning and the cool breeze was enjoyed until about Council Grove. We pretty much melted from then on. We...

Re: Sweltering August Ride
My wife, Jodi, & I enjoyed a 3 day anniversary weekend in Hermann a few years back. It so happens our anniversary is in October, which is a very lively time around Hermann and the vineyards! We stayed at the Second Creek Farms Bed & Breakfast, and we can recommend it! It is a relatively new place bu...

Re: Sun 8/3 KC to Cassoday
Just a thought, but hows about we move the start up a bunch, like 6am  . I know some will say " are you nuts" and yes quite frankly I am. Its going to be a darn hot day and we could be home before the heat index goes thru the roof. It's your ride Troy so I'm just tossing out an idea for you ...

Re: Sun 8/3 KC to Cassoday
I might make this ride. Gravel on the way down? I considered riding at the ranch this weekend but I think it is just too hot. As mentioned, the guys I'll be with will be pavement. Got a sweet Buell Firebolt and a chromed Harley along on this one. I'll be on my new-to-me 2006 red V-Strom 650. I have...

Re: Sun 8/3 KC to Cassoday
I do plan to keep the speed under 70. I assume the speed limit on those non-interstate highways are 55 to 65 at best. I don't plan on speeding.
It is forecast to be 99....HOT! I had thought about backing out, but a fellow rider shamed me into going regardless.

Sun 8/3 KC to Cassoday
If the weather is agreeable, some of us are riding our more street-oriented machines to Cassoday this Sunday. WHAT Cassoday Biker Event Occurs first Sunday of every month. Thousands of motorcycles along with food vendors, etc converge in the tiny cowtown of Cassoday, KS. We'll enjoy the ride down, w...

Re: Long Way Down showing at the Plaza, July 31
I plan to go. Thanks for the heads up, JaySoy! You'll have to explain the cheezeburger guy to me. I'm not hip enough to be in the know. Despite the criticisms of Long Way Around, I really enjoyed watching it. This will be cool on the big screen. Hope more of you can make it. Which location? 500 Nich...

Re: Mena, Arkansas????
The "wolf pen gap" trail system (I think it is called) is the system in the Mena area. I've heard reports of there being "100's of miles of trails" in that area. I've not been yet. I guess the reason I've not been is that it's a good hour or more past the Cass, AR area and I've yet to exhaust the tr...

Here is a small bit of road that is fun near Beaumont, KS. There is plenty of good stuff, but I don't have it all conveniently mapped. Hayden knows some good stuff between this area and Wichita, so hopefully he'll find time to reply. http://www.marengo-ltd.com/map2/index.php?route=4718 Just S of Bea...

Re: Wednesday Riding near St Louis?
Hey, Chadman! I think you and MoRidin are the only members anywhere close to St. Louis on this forum. I wouldn't mind hitting the trails at Finger Lakes which is mid-way for you and me. I don't have Wednesdays off, though.
