Re: 4th Annual Winter Bald Eagle Ride, January 18-21, 2013

Eddie drug me through the dozen icy creek crossings on Lost Creek Rd in pitch black darkness and frigid weather...on my Vstrom 650. It was the highlight of the trip!

Re: 4th Annual Winter Bald Eagle Ride, January 18-21, 2013

If wifi is needed we could go to Jerseyville, IL. Eddie is leading this ride so it's his say, but I'd like to point out that there really are no guarantees on this thing. There are variables at play--especially in winter. Even if Eddie goes out of his way to ensure the motel has WiFi, in my experie...

Re: 4th Annual Winter Bald Eagle Ride, January 18-21, 2013

I don't need a firm commitment but please give me an indication if you are planning on going. Scottie (jasoomian) and I plan to ride. We plan to share a room, depending on the room situations we end up with. Plenty of room for you, Eddie, in between. Scottie will ride up from Owasso, OK on Thurs. I...

Re: Saddle Bag securing help

Nice one, Savage! 8)

Don, only thing I can tell you is strap it down as tight as you can in any way you can. Ensure the bag and straps won't touch the exhaust. Make sure straps can't get loose and get into the wheel or chain.

Ride is next week. With today's weather, though, makes me wish we were heading out today.

Re: Back Roads might be good on Friday?

I was out yesterday (Tue.) in Platte County and the gravel roads were not fun! Ice, mud, and ruts which made my DR seem even heavier. Snow drifts also covered half of the road in places. Shaded areas were still ice covered which caused me to clinch the seat cover tightly with both hands on the bars...

Re: Back Roads might be good on Friday?

Forecast is for Rain on Thursday, and 62 degrees on Friday....................... Anyone have the day off? Friday is looking great for a back road ride--you are right! Unfortunately, I'll be in the office staring at a computer screen. I'm not going to complain too much, though--unemployed people do...

Yeah, that was fun. Useful? Not so much. Not useful? You got 3 real replies from people with some real experience with those wheel balancing beads. Here's my summary of their replies: DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. How's it going up there in the frigid North, Rick? 8) PS: Also, in light of recent revelat...

Re: Dakar

I really wish something as big as the Dakar got more coverage especially when I have to sit through 3873 hours of figure skating coverage every 4 years. No offense to any figure skaters, but, not exactly my cup of tea for entertainment. Try being stuck in a house with a former figure skater turned ...

Eddie, my naive self only knows about gold medals in relation to the Olympics? Is your daughter an Olympic gold medalist?

A man needs his cabin in the woods. I'm still working towards mine. In the meantime, I keep mooching off guys like you. 8)

Re: Dakar

No offense to any figure skaters, but, not exactly my cup of tea for entertainment. Ask Eddie what his wife does for a living. Agreed though! Hard to believe there are more people in the US that want to watch hours of figure skating compared to off-road racing. Of course I feel that way abou...

Re: 4th Annual Winter Bald Eagle Ride, January 18-21, 2013

I need to figure out whether or not to take Monday off from work as well. Maybe even Tuesday. I can't predict when we will be back on Monday however I hope to be back by 4:00. You definitely need Mon off work. Of course you can split off anytime you want (after letting the group know of course). Fo...

Re: 4th Annual Winter Bald Eagle Ride, January 18-21, 2013

Got my new Kenda Big Block rear tire on the F800GS. I think that's all she needs to be ready for the ride. For whatever reason, even my heated gloves aren't enough to keep my right thumb from getting numb in really cold weather. I'm considering a set of those Hippo Hand things. Safiri and others say...

Re: Dakar

I chose the Australian coverage because it was in English. :) As big as the Dakar is, it's still has a very small niche of fans in the US. Most people I ask have never heard of the race. Of course, most "regular" folk I know have never heard of "KTM" either. Please let us know if you find a good sou...

Re: Dakar

In prior years I found a daily torrent of the Australian coverage. It was a 30 minute show with 10 minutes for bikes, 10 minutes for cars, and 10 minutes for the big trucks. I could get it one day behind. I remember putting them on my web server and linking to them for people on Backroadstouring.org...
